Westin Langkawi Resort and Spa, Malaysia
The picturesque shores of a private beach, minutes from the main town of Kuah, is home to one of Langkawi’s most respected waterfront properties, The Westin Langkawi Resort and Spa.
Westin Langkawi Resort and Spa
Blending contemporary design with a celebration of the natural environment, this resort is an ideal getaway for singles, couples, families or groups of friends, who wish to enjoy the splendors of nature without removing themselves too far from modern conveniences.
Beach Lining Westin Langkawi Resort and Spa’s Shore
The stunning property extends over a huge expanse of greenery, with a private waterfront on one side and green hills protecting from behind. Spaces are formulated to fit in with the native surrounds rather than overtake. As such rooms and common areas nestle into the landscape and most gift guests with magnificent views of the majestic seascape or rich tropical vegetation.
Outlook from the Beach
Just over 202 rooms and suites and 20 private ocean view pool villas, offer a number of categories for a variety of needs and budgets. From a superior room covering 38sqm of space, to a whopping five-bedroom villa with 800sqm of living area, and everything in between, it would seem there’s something for everyone.

No matter which category you choose they all come with some standard Westin features: DVD player; in-room movies; daily newspaper; satellite channels; plasma television; hairdryer; electronic safe; iron and ironing board; writing desk; mini-bar; tea and coffee making amenities; and, perhaps the most notable, the Heavenly Bed.
Light Bright Rooms
The Heavenly Bed has long been, for us, the thing dreams (literally) are made of. A plush pillow top construction is just the beginning. The supportive base is also mounted with a mattress pad, cotton sheets and a silky duvet. Feather and down pillows complete the soothing composition. A soak in the Heavenly Bath or refreshment in the rain shower, lathering ourselves with the white tea scented bath products, further puts us in the mood for a peaceful night’s rest. And… nothing, absolutely nothing can beat the sound of the sea for lulling us into a sanctuary of slumber.
Living a harried, running-to-catch-every-second-I-can type lifestyle, when I find a place that induces such profound rest, it’s a challenge to leave. But an empty tummy calls and I do have a job to do. So here’s our rundown of the fantastic range of food and beverage options available at the resort.
Seasonal Tastes is an air-conditioned retreat allowing those sensitive to the heat to enjoy a meal anytime of the day in cooled contemporary comfort. Glassed walls volunteer stunning vistas over the pools, gardens and further beyond to the Andaman Sea, while the inside has a fresh clean vibrant ambience.
It’s here we get a healthy start to the day with a host of nutritious options for breakfast. Fresh fruits, yoghurts, wholegrain breads, cereals and nuts have me off to an energetic start, while hubby is content with a choice of eggs, meats and buttery pastries. There’s even a bit of bubbly for an extra merry morning.

Table for Lunch
There’s absolutely no excuse to put on any holiday pounds while away. In fact, the wealth of options at The Westin Langkawi Resort and Spa might actually see you returning fitter and more svelte than when you left. The defence of forgetting your workout gear is thrown out the window too, as the group has partnered with New Balance providing guests with shoes and clothing, for a small fee, to exercise in.
On the Lawn
Squash courts and two flood lit tennis courts are complimented with a well-stocked gymnasium. Running maps through the surrounding greenery, of both six and eight kilometer routes, have been planned too. An exciting new addition though, that for sure will spice physical sessions up, is the Wii room. Three consoles, a large 6×6 foot screen and a host of active programs can be tried out, without embarrassment, in the confines of a private room.
A variety of watersports such as kayaking, wind surfing, sailing and many more can be arranged with the assistance of associates at the water sports centre. For those wanting to explore further afield, the concierge team are friendly and able to help facilitate excursions as desired. We reserve a Mini Cooper for a couple of hours and feel the freedom of exploring at our own leisure in the chic economical car.
Non-Motorized Water Sports
Four pools give guests more options. The Ocean Rock Pool resembles a natural setting with boulders and waterfalls. The main pool’s huge expanse unites resort and coast with its infinity edge. The starlit night is made extra special with an adjoining whirlpool. A Children’s Pool provides a shallow spot to splash and, the Heavenly Spa Pool is a wonderfully peaceful getaway for those seeking privacy or an extension of relaxation of a spa treatment.

With all of those watery options you might need reminding that there’s actually a long stretch of beach and ocean along the entire edge of the hotel. More activity can be seen directly in front of the pool area, but a short walk further down and the shady tree-lined shore offers plenty of secluded sanctuaries.
Beach – Not great for swimming, but perfect for lounging
Youngsters are well taken care of at the Westin Kids Club. A full range of activities for kiddos aged between four and twelve years old includes enjoyment of the natural setting, and involvement in local culture through learning games local children like to play. Full and half day packages encompass a variety of supervised indoor and outdoor experiences, lunch, snacks and a Westin Kids Club drawstring bag.
Children’s Play Area
Exhausted from all that activity a relaxing session in Westin’s Heavenly Spa is just what is called for. Located in a peaceful end of the resort, the environment is nothing short of stunning. We partake in an 80 minute signature massage followed by a romantic Spa by Night dining experience. Read about the blissful package via this link.
