Last year, Hilton Kuala Lumpur blew us away with their Christmas buffet. For traditionalists, it was one of the most spectacular smorgasbords we’d come across, with the biggest wow factor being every sort of roast imaginable. This year, we’re taking a tamer approach and avoiding crowds but that doesn’t mean we don’t get to benefit from Hilton KL’s Christmas roast expertise.

The kitchen team have put together Festive Takeaway Boxes making work, friends or family gatherings a breeze. They are available throughout December 2020 and can be topped up with wine, additional sides and dessert. The feast can be collected from Hilton Kuala Lumpur’s lobby or delivery can also be arranged. For orders before December 10th, delivery is free within a 20km radius of the hotel. After the 10th, a flat-rate of RM20 will be charged per address. Those outside the 20km radius should call the hotel directly for rates.

Beef, lamb and turkey are all available with matching condiments, sides and desserts. We went with the traditional Santa’s Turkey Box (RM450) and were impressed with quality and presentation of the food. It’s said to serve five to six people but I can easily see plenty of turkey leftovers.

The star of the show is the whole turkey (4-5kg) that has been slow-roasted with a honey-orange glaze. The meat is moist all the way through, which is particularly tricky to achieve with such a large bird. It looks stunning with its golden skin and moat of roasted veggies.

Delivered in an aluminum tray, reheating is easy. Just pop the bird and the veg in the oven for about 20 minutes and it’s ready to go. As mentioned, the poultry is surrounded by roasted vegetables – potatoes, Brussels sprouts, pumpkin, sweet potato and herbs. On the side, we find mushroom and chestnut stuffing and kidney bean and spinach brown rice, along with giblet gravy, natural jus and cranberry sauce.

You’d think that would be plenty, but the meal is balanced out with fresh salads. Smoked chicken, red quinoa, pomegranate, roasted pine nuts and fresh mint is light and fresh. The beetroot, feta and candied walnuts mix adds some colour to the table, and the new red potato salad with fennel and roasted pepper is delicious.

Of course, Christmas is not complete without dessert and a trio is presented in just the right portion to end the meal without a touch of sweetness. Mini apple and pecan pies, rich chocolate Swiss rolls and sliced seasonal fruits not only look good but are well-made bites too.

Festive Takeaway Boxes KL 2020 Hilton Kuala Lumpur Review

I think the Festive Takeaway Boxes KL 2020 from Hilton Kuala Lumpur are excellent value for money. Both the quality and presentation of the food is superb and it sure beats me slaving away in the kitchen for hours to prepare a feast on a what is supposed to be a holiday.

  1. I wonder if the hotels here are having turkeys this year. Used to have them and lamb racks too for Christmas. I’d order the lamb – the turkey’s too big for just the three of us now that we’re keeping it all to ourselves this year.

  2. “Festive” is the understatement of the day here! The spread of food in all its colors and textures are a feast for the eyes. One would welcome leftovers like these

  3. Apple pecan tarts instead of mince pies?
    That’s refreshing!
We should start this tradition here too.
