Shanghai Brunch, Shook, Starhill Gallery, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Could there be a finer way to kick off a Sunday afternoon than with a glass of bubbly (Laurent Perrier) or a fine drop of sav blanc from Marlborough?

Cheese heaven!  Check out the phenomenal selection of both soft and hard varieties.

A little dried fruit to complete your cheese platter.

Dried meat and then the endless buffet begins…

and goes on… and on…

and on…

And as you’d expect with a ‘Shanghai’ brunch – lots of delicious Chinese dishes

And then there’s the seafood…

And more…

and more…

Cooked however you like but always with a smile

Japanese too…

Everything prepared or served by staff dressed head to toe in elaborate period costumes

Mains are made to order. Choose from the Grill, Chinese, Italian and Japanese.

No buffet would be complete without a spectacular spread of desserts and this dazzling display held the crowd spellbound

Shook! celebrates the theatrical extravagance of Shanghai in the 1930’s with the most decadent brunch in town. The flamboyance of the legendary Sin City is brought to life with free flowing champagne, dramatic costumes, awe inspiring decorations, live music, jovial entertainers and an endless worldly feast. Just as the Shanghai of a bygone era was a hedonistic mecca for the rich and famous, Shook!  brings a chance to relive the pursuit of pleasure every Sunday afternoon with the commencement of their Shanghai brunch.
All of my foodie dreams come true at once and I start speaking multiple languages as I travel the buffet. “Oui, plus champagne veuillez. Yes, more champagne please.”  My Italian is invoked, “Delizioso!” with a seductive selection of soft and hard cheeses. Continuing on my journey I encounter traveling waiters with dumplings, grilled meats, pizza and start babbling in one word expressions from around the globe, “Rico! Saboroso! Harika!”  When it’s time to order the main I choose Dancing Prawns – stir fried juicy shrimp with hot mayonnaise sprinkled with honey glazed walnuts – and if I could speak Chinese I’m sure I would have broken out in Chinese opera. Finally, standing in front of the dessert pièce de résistance, I’m reduced to the vocabulary of a teenager, “Wow, like this is amazing, like soooo awesome!” Of course this decline in eloquence has nothing to do with the, “Yes, more champagne please.” Smiling, satisfied and already conspiring my next tarriance, I leave feeling that I had done justice to the memory of the sybaritic times of an era gone past.

Reason to visit: theatrical ambience, free flow bubbly (duh), cheese selection, Dancing Prawns, incredible desserts
