A Great Selection of Roti and Delicious Curries at Indian Kitchen, Bangsar

Food adventures with local buddies are often the most fruitful. Indian Kitchen in Bangsar is one such example. My friend has been telling me for sometime about how great the Indian breads are at this place and I never would have entered if he hadn’t dragged me in.
From the outside it looked like one of those Indian places that have metal pots of curry sitting for hours over lunch with a puddle of oil glistening on top. Not so here! Everything was made fresh, including the justifiably reputed as ‘incredible’ roti selection. I appreciated the fact that the ingredients in each version were listed on the menu and cheerful to see a number of healthy whole wheat options, all grilled or baked in the tandoor.
We tried: the Pulkha, a healthy whole wheat roti, grilled on a stove; the Roomali Roti, a soft and delicate textured bread made from refined flour and; the Tandoori Paratha, buttered multi-layered wholemeal bread baked in the tandoor. Any one of the breads we tried were delicious on their own, however, a plenty a topping await your pick from the menu. Gongura Mutton featured the distinct flavour of sorrel leaves giving the stew a slightly sour lip smacking goodness. The Chicken Lababdar was a spicy semi dry dish consisting of boneless grilled chicken sautéed in an onion and tomato gravy with spices, cream and nuts.
Most breads ranged from RM3 – RM6 and curries hovered around RM20.
The other cool thing about dining with ‘in the know’ buddies is that they reveal things to you that you wouldn’t usually uncover by yourself in a restaurant. In this case, an Indian mouth freshener and digestive aid called ‘sauf’. Head over to the metal counter aside the kitchen and pinch a few of the spices, including sweet fennel seeds, pop them into your mouth and chew for a refreshed breath after your meal.
