Witches and Brew, Sandwiches and Coffee, Avenue K

This cosy den, tucked away in a corner of Avenue K next to the supermarket, is worth hunting for. Sandwiches are the main fare, and you can choose from a creative selection of mouth-watering fillings, served on the bread of your choice. There’s Focaccia, Panini, Olive Ciabatta, Sourdough and Wholemeal, all baked especially for the restaurant using organic flour. Tuesdays are set aside for baking Gluten-Free bread to ensure there’s no cross-contamination. Witches and Brew serves the best GF bread I’ve ever tasted. It’s made with rice flour, along with a little grated carrot or cranberries to add flavour and lightness. Highly recommended!

The fillings are wholesome and tasty with herbs and spices adding extra zing. Some of the choices include Spicy Chicken Salad with Caramelised Shallots and Coriander, Roast Chicken and Avocado Mayo with Cheese, and Turkey Ham with Roasted Red Peppers, Cheese and Dijon, all priced at RM17.80. I enjoyed the Tuna Dill Mayo with Cucumber on Sourdough (RM16.80) but my favourite, was the Roasted Vegetables with Rosemary Butter and Feta (RM13.80). For only RM3 more, you can add Flavoured Green Tea.

The House Salad changes daily and is reasonably priced at RM4.50. I was impressed by a lovely combination of Arugula, Cherry Tomatoes, Dill and Basil in a Mustard Dressing. There’s also a tasty Soup of the Day for RM5.50.

Your sweet tooth will be amply satisfied too, even if you don’t eat wheat. We sampled the Gluten-Free Red Velvet Cake, but preferred the Chocolate Hazelnut. Admittedly, the other desserts, baked by Fat Boy Bakes, are more sinful. We enjoyed the Mars Bar Cheesecake (RM13.50) but swooned over the Salted Macadamia Caramel Chocolate Tart (RM13.50). It’s bittersweet, salty and loaded with crunchy nuts. Mmmmmm!

Witches and Brew offers a good selection of coffee and tea along with Fresh Fruit Juices, Slushies and Italian Sodas. The seating is unusual with artsy wooden boxes instead of chairs, and I especially liked the array of chalkboards; graffiti is encouraged!

I'll definitely love this place. It feels like a healthy cafe that I can hang out in, especially with the wide selection of fresh sandwiches and gluten-free desserts. 😀
The hazelnut cake looks very moist and chocolaty!
