Board of Cheese – Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur |
Christmas, New Year, Cheese Boards and Afternoon Tea
Too!
Too!
Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur
Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur has a delicious line-up of activities planned for the festive season. From never-ending buffets and specially tailored menus, to yummy treats to enjoy in house or take-away, and fabulous Christmas decorations, this 5-star property intends to make your year-end a very jolly one.
A Bit for Charity
First stop is the grand lobby, set a bloom with twinkling lights and a majestic tree. From here we suggest participating in the “Star for a Child Programme,” whereby guests purchase a gift for a child receiving treatment in the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital Paediatric Ward. Leave your gift under the tree and the elves at the Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur will ensure it’s delivered. Santa and Santarina have been rumoured to appear nightly around 6pm, making a terrific chance to grab some holiday family snaps – everyone needs a photo on Santa’s knee right?

Take Away Delights
Moving onto to gourmet delights… for the month of December Bistro 160 promises to deliver guests some mouth-watering treats for Yuletide. Chef Joas’ signature Christmas Log Cakes come in three flavours – Black Forest, Vanilla Berries and Green Tea – and there are a host of other jolly sweets too!
Browsing the Christmas confectionaries in the glass display leaves us dizzy with sugar envy. Our sweet tooths are having difficulty making decisions. Nut pies, spice cookies and loads of items covered in chocolate vie for our attention. Eventually we choose edible festive decorations made from chocolate and gingerbread thinking they’ll make delicious gifts. Christmas Stollen with Almond Marzipan (400g RM45) and some Mince Pies (RM5.50 piece) end up in our basket also, for our own indulgence.
Time to Catch Up with Friends
The newly launched Board of Cheese (RM58++) and English Afternoon Tea (RM55++) can be enjoyed anytime, but is an especially agreeable way to catch up with friends over this festive period. Both are available at Bistro 160 with the cheese being offered all day, and tea 3pm – 6pm daily.
Board of Cheese |
Amassed with more than a handful of scrumptious cheeses, The Board of Cheese, features soft, crumbly and matured productions. The Saint Maure Chevretine begs for a cool glass of sauvignon blanc to chaperone it. The sheep Feta in Flavoured Oil does well on it’s own or smooshed across a toasted slice of house-made rye bread. And, both the Gouda and Emmental are given extra oomph with sweet tomato and onion jams. Order wine by the glass or bottle or take pleasure in some half bottles (Cono Sur red and white) for an additional RM58++ to affix a little more merriment to a rendezvous.

English Afternoon Tea |
The tradition of an afternoon bite and a cuppa is jazzed up with playful presentation in the English Afternoon Tea. Akin to a dainty doll’s house, I’m wondering from which room will I eat? Sensibly I should start with the soft fresh cut Finger Sandwiches of egg, ham or salmon, or maybe even the English Stilton and Broccoli Quiche.

My fingers can’t resist the Stollen however, a goodie thrown in just for December. Covered with marzipan, dusted with powdered sugar and dotted with fruit, this bread is dense, rich and extremely satisfying. But then there are macarons, chocolate ganache, raspberry linzer cookies, trifle and fruitcake to try as well! Be sure to allow time for this experience, as it’s a line-up worth spending a good couple of hours of nibbling on.

It wouldn’t be afternoon tea without scones, so raisin and plain varieties, still warm from the oven have a place too. Served with premium clotted cream and strawberry jam, they go down very nicely with the included Ronnefeldt tea or Illy coffee.
Buffet Meals and Entertainment
The Mill Café is offering a reasonably priced buffet for Christmas and New Year’s Eves and Days (prices listed at the end). A visit on Christmas Eve or Day will see additional entertainment in the form of strolling Christmas carollers, while New Year’s Eve will be marked with a countdown and balloon drop.
The Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur seems to have it all taken care of, proving a one-stop location for spreading and partaking in holiday cheer.
