“Real Food and Comfort Dining”
We first became enamoured with BreadFruits in 2013. Just opened the small café cum organic grocers enticed us with its warm community feel and delicious and healthy breakfasts. Returning nearly two years later, BreadFruits continues with its friendly cheery feel, but in an expanded space and with some flavoursome new dinner items on the menu.
Drinks
Along with this extension we notice the upgrading of the coffee machine to a Wega double boiler, catering to the high demand for coffee. The ladies behind this machine make an expert cup of joe, and we’re particularly enthralled by the Wild Honey Latte (RM11.50). Using locally roasted beans and a splash of Wesley’s Wild Honey, this brew is so toothsome we could easily guzzle numerous cups in one sitting. The best selling drink however is the Passion Honey (RM10.90). Nearly 60kg of passionfruit is used a week just to make this popular beverage.

Besides these gratifying drinks, alcohol too has been introduced. Three beers on tap – Connor’s, Asahi, and Hoegaarden – are currently being served and wine will make an appearance too in the near future. In the meantime however, diners are welcome to brink their own bottle of wine with no corkage fee.
Dinner
With a strong commitment to a healthy diet, “Real Food and Comfort Dining,” the dinner menu has been devised with a focus on natural ingredients. You’ll find nothing artificial in the recipes, just fresh wholesome produce. Owner KK wants everyone to enjoy healthy tasty meals. When composing a recipe, the sides are given just as much attention as are the main components: almost guaranteeing that plates will be scraped clean.
Antipasto
Charcuterie Cheese Platter (RM36.80) is ideal for sharing between two to three people. A beautiful tray of prosciutto, salami Milano, grilled chorizo, brie, cheddar, and Parmesan are given a bright splash of colour with jalapeños, grapes, beetroot and carrot pickles, and Spanish gremolata. Thin slices of toast make perfect utensils. The only thing missing with this dish is a chilled bottle of wine, but that will soon be remedied.

Salad
A vegetarian option, a salad of Fennel, Sweet Pea, Asparagus and Mint Pesto (RM19.80), is a verdant display of nutrition. Vegetables are only very lightly cooked gifting the plate with a wonderful bright crispness. Cashews add richness and a spot of additional crunch.

The mains selection is quite extensive with multiple options for different proteins. We attempt to try something from most sections.
Pork
The Wild Honey Apple Pear Pork Chop (RM32.80) is a monster! A plump chunk of meat sits in the middle of the plate, glistening in a sweet liquid of fruity bliss. Cinnamon, thyme, lemon zest and star anise add complexity of flavour. I want to scoop up the ambrosial sauce by the spoonful. It’s a heavenly match of protein, fruit and honey.

Beef
A harmonious combination of beef, veggies and fruit is found in the Spanish Gremolata Sliced Beef with Jalapeño (RM48.80). Cooked to our preference of medium, strips of beef, pink in the middle, make a circular fan leading up to a central tower. The meat is succulent and flavourful all on its own, but the addition of a bright salsa, rashers of avocado, spicy jalapeños and an anchovy on the very crown, ensure every corner of the mouth is filled with relish. For those not appreciative of a chili kick, the jalapeños are easily brushed aside not affecting the overall savour of the dish.

Seafood
Arriving fresh off the truck, we’re treated to Grilled Snapper seasoned with a Chermoula of 12 Herbs and Spices and sided with grilled Pineapple and a Cucumber Salad (RM53.80). This generous portion is another dish recommended for sharing between two to three friends. Inspired by the flavours of Morocco and Tunisia, and prepared a la minute, allow 15 to 20 minutes for this dish to be prepared. We smell the gorgeous creature as it’s delivered to our table. The skin guards moist flaky flesh in a perfectly charred casing. Thinly shaved cucumber and halved cherry tomatoes are simply dressed with mint, forming a refreshing side. It’s the house made chili sauce however, made with apple cider vinegar and a few drops of wild honey, that has us licking the bowl.

Italy also gets a look in, with a number of risottos on the menu. Sundried Tomato Basil and Prawn Risotto (RM24.80) comes highly recommended. Full flavoured crustacean, with fragrant basil, and the sweet and sour taste of sun-dried tomatoes mesh to form a boldly satisfying dish.
