A Journey of Six Senses Bottled Cocktails at Jann

What’s better than going out for cocktails? Having cocktails delivered to your door of course!!
Four Points at Sheraton have made this a reality at their Jann bar.
Whether enjoying them from the comfort of your own home, a shared table at the bar, or delivered to your room at the hotel, the cocktails come ready mixed in modern bottles with accompanying, dehydrated garnishes, for you to mix and match as you feel fit.
The flight of bottled cocktails – A Journey of Six Senses – at a very reasonable RM138, follows the six taste senses, starting with the sweet to awaken the tastebuds, and following all the way through to the umami finale.
The hotel itself, based in trendy Chinatown, is unassuming from the outside, belying the thoughtfully decorated, art deco interior with a bar which transports you straight back to the 1920s. A wraparound bar sports copper jiggers and Boston shakers, a wall of spirits and beer taps on the wall. It’s certainly worth a visit if you’re in that part of town, but I digress.

We commence our Journey of Six Senses with Tian (sweet), which very much reminds me of sangria. Red wine is sweetened with rose syrup, balanced with orange juice and given an alcoholic kick with Absolut vodka. Mon and I were both a fan of that one!
Suan, meaning sour, is a revelation… I had never thought to combine whiskey (in this instance, Jameson) with pineapple but this is an oversight which will be changing! Using both juice and liquor of the fruit, as well as adding to the sourness with lime, this is a real crowd-pleaser for those of us who prefer the tart flavours!
For the lovers of bitter flavours, Ku will be right up your street. Cold-brew coffee forms the base. Pandan infuses the Absolut vodka and again Jameson Whiskey all come together for an intense bitterness smoothed over by the roundness of pandan.
La is our spicy adventure. Reminiscent of a piquant margarita, tequila is the leading lady, with chilli and calamansi, mango juice and ginger adorning her voluptuous being. Grab a martini glass, salt the rim and pop a chilli and lime into this one. It is balanced in the same way as Thai food with the 4 S’s – sweet, salt, sour and spice. This would go particularly well with a Sunday brunch!
Xián is the salty addition to the sextuplet. Chivas Extra and salted caramel are paired with vermouth to create a drink which makes no apologies for itself. Full-bodied with a real sweetness which would work nicely to create a pimped-up coffee, if you felt so inclined.
The final umami inspired drink is also Xiān (meaning umami when spoken in a different tone), which is a drink packed with big flavours of umami bitters, created using seaweed, fish stock – yes, really – and five-spice. This, with Chivas 12 year old, creates an interesting cocktail for the adventure spirited amongst you.
