Penang beckons visitors with its vibrant culture, mouth-watering street food and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. However, the north also has several seaside resorts worth travelling a little further for. Many are familiar with Batu Feringghi, but head just one beach over and Teluk Bahang offers a quieter community, with a long stretch of beach fronting a backdrop of lush forested hills.

Welcoming guests under the stewardship of Banyan Group, Angsana Teluk Bahang marks the debut of the Angsana brand in Malaysia. The beachfront haven boasts 231 sea-view rooms and suites designed with Peranakan flair by Omar Khan. We spend a weekend here, relaxing by the pool, gazing over the Andaman Sea, and soaking up the tropical vibes.

Rooms with a View

The awesome thing about rooms at Angsana Teluk Bahang is that every room has a sea view, no matter the size! This is a smart design, and it means that no matter your budget, you still get to enjoy what you came to this beachside resort for—the sea!

From the Superior Seaview Room, with its spacious balcony, to the larger Premier Seaview Room, providing more space, a bathtub, and a private balcony, they all face calming water and the tops of swaying palms.

For those seeking the ultimate in opulence, the Pool Suites at Angsana Teluk Bahang redefine the meaning of luxury. These sprawling sanctuaries provide tranquillity with separate living and sleeping areas, a private balcony, and the pièce de résistance —a plunge pool overlooking the ocean. Imagine taking a refreshing dip in your private pool as you gaze out at the endless horizon, the perfect picture of tropical paradise.

But the pinnacle of indulgence awaits at the Angsana Two-Bedroom Sky Garden Seaview Suite. These exclusive digs boast a rooftop terrace with a private Jacuzzi, offering unparalleled panoramic views of the ocean and the surrounding landscape. Unwind in the jet tub, soak up the sun on the loungers, or turn the lights out and appreciate the stars in the dark night sky.

While we spend most of our time on our sky deck, in or beside our outdoor Jacuzzi, we squeeze in some beach walks, do sunrise yoga, and get a workout in the small but sufficiently equipped fitness centre. We also delight in an ultimate pampering session at the Angsana Spa, where a menu of massages, facials, scrubs and body conditioners cater to diverse desires. We surrender to the expert touch of the therapists as they melt away our stress and restore our inner balance. We loved our experience here so much that we considered the spa to merit its own article. Find that and some great packages here.

Angsana Teluk Bahang Restaurants & Bars

Jendela is Angsana Teluk Bahang’s all-day dining restaurant. While we shy away from buffets and crowds, we do enjoy a Peranakan set lunch on its terrace. Overlooking the pool, the reasonably priced set is delicious, made for sharing between two, and gifts a taste of some of those world-famous flavours the island is known for.

Generally, though, we prefer the more intimate space of the resort’s specialty restaurant, No. 11. we have breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner here. We spend so much time in the restaurant that we deem it worthy of a dedicated post, too. Find that here.

We also take advantage of the chance for sundowners at Fire & Ice, Angsana Teluk Bahang’s beach club. This open-air restaurant allows you to dine al fresco, with waves providing a soothing soundtrack to your sips and bites. We enjoy well-made Mojitos and Margaritas (tell them you prefer fresh lime, not a premix), taking the edge off the tropical heat.

Exploring Beyond the Resort

Reaching the resort, you might be fooled into thinking that you’re in an isolated part of Penang. However, Angsana Teluk Bahang’s location is just a stone’s throw away from several attractions. ESCAPE Penang, a thrilling theme park offering exhilarating adventures and adrenaline-pumping challenges with high ropes courses, heart-pounding zip lines, and escape rooms, is mere minutes up the road. Nature enthusiasts might also enjoy the neighbouring Tropical Spice Garden and Entopia Butterfly Farm. For a little retail therapy, Batu Feringgi’s night markets are a couple of kilometres away, selling a kaleidoscope of cheap goods, souvenirs, and street food.

Angsana Teluk Bahang Review

Angsana Teluk Bahang is an excellent alternative to what visitors usually expect of Penang. With every room facing the sea, there are no bad views. We especially appreciated the spaciousness of our suite and, even more so, loved our deck and Jacuzzi. The stretch of beach is quite pretty. Although the water is not a pristine turquoise hue, the sand itself is relatively trash-free and clean. We appreciate dual pools – one for adults and a separate splash area for children. When we return, we’ll take a look at the pool suites and will most definitely sign ourselves up for several sessions in their fabulous spa.
