Best Brunch Bangsar – Affordable Sunday Gathering
Settling in for Sunday Brunch (RM 88+ for food, RM 138+ for food and free-flow red and white wine and Aperol Spritz) on the patio, I was pleasantly surprised by the almost beachy vibe right in the heart of Bangsar (perhaps the Reggae music). I felt my stresses immediately melt away as I eagerly awaited the start of our free-flow brunch. And wait long, I did not have to! Our feast began arriving at the table as soon as the water glasses were filled.
We started off with Tagliere di Salumi con Formaggi, a cold-cuts and cheese platter piled with wafer-thin slices of slightly spicy salami and ham paired with a selection of creamy cheeses accompanied by pillows of deep-fried bread nuggets dusted with sea salt. In addition to the bread was a lovely pesto dip, a spicy tomato chilli dip and a bowl of black and green olives.
Next up was the unique Uova Estive, a juicy slice of perfectly salted ham sandwiched between a hard-boiled egg, garnished with rocket and fresh tomato. It was different and simple yet full of flavour, with the halved eggs acting as mini buns holding the sandwiched ingredients.
The Parmigiana di Melanzane was our favourite dish of the day. This expertly and authentically prepared eggplant parmesan melts in your mouth, offering a savoury burst of tomato, rich eggplant, zesty cheese, and a slight crunch around the edges. Perfetto!
Next, a chicken dish, the Pollo Tonnato, arrived. This dish comprises thin slices of juicy grilled chicken generously doused with a light and creamy tuna sauce and garnished with a sprinkling of capers. Again, it is simple yet delicious.
The fish course, Branzino al Forno, brought us an entire baked seabass with a fresh lemon caper sauce. The delicate, flaky fish offered a satiny, soft, light bite with a lovely, lemony finish.
Of course, no Italian meal can be complete without meatballs! Polpette della Nonna was a juicy, slightly spicy, very generous pork meatball in a thick and hearty tomato sauce—traditional Italian at its best!
Also served to the table was a trio of side dishes: lightly sauteed broccoli, hearty lentil stew and creamy mashed potatoes, perfect accompaniments for our main dishes.
Just when I thought we had come to the end of our delectable Italian brunch experience, out comes a perfectly prepared Pizza dello Chef. Today’s pizza is generously topped with thinly shaved ham and plenty of mozzarella cheese. Baked to golden-brown perfection and fresh from the pizza oven, it is a tasty favourite to wrap up our very plentiful meal.
