Rock Bar Bali & After Rock, AYANA Estate
Monica Tindall
Rock Bar Bali is carved into the cliffside, reached by a short but scenic tram ride. The ocean shimmers below as we descend. When we step off, it’s like arriving at a sprawling outdoor living room built into the rock. The ocean stretches out endlessly in every direction, and you’re right there in it, no matter where you sit.
Rock Bar Bali
For over 15 years, Rock Bar Bali has reigned supreme as the island’s original cliff bar experience. What began as a small, sunset-soaked hangout has transformed into a sprawling venue capable of hosting up to 880 guests. Here, casual seating winds along the cliff face, ensuring everyone gets an ocean-view seat. As the sun dips below the horizon, gentle lamps bathe the rocks in a warm glow, and the energy transforms into a vibrant party atmosphere, all accompanied by the steady rhythm of waves crashing against the shore.
Liquid Magic with a View
Simone, the newly appointed mixologist at the helm of Rock Bar Bali’s bar, is happy to assist with our drink selection. For Caning, a light and refreshing option, Rock My World (IDR 225) is a vibrant concoction featuring kaffir lime and lemongrass-infused vodka, yuzu puree, pineapple, and a touch of citrus. For the classic cocktail enthusiast (me), the Rockgroni (IDR 225) is a merit-worthy twist on my beloved Negroni. Here, Tanqueray gin meets Campari and bitters, but with the added complexity of sous vide Martini Rosso and a touch of Sunrise Ayana Coffee. A coffee bean garnish adds a playful touch to this sophisticated sipper. (Scroll to the end for the cocktail menu and prices.)
Sharing Plates & Seaside Fare
The tapas menu at Rock Bar Bali perfectly accompanies our sunset cocktails. Ideal for sharing, there’s plenty to nibble on, including a couple of meat-free items. The simply prepared Beef Sliders (IDR 150) come in a trio, featuring juicy patties in soft buns with a mildly zingy tzatziki sauce, tomato, cucumber, and lettuce. For a vegetarian pick, the Summer Rolls (IDR 115) offers a vibrant medley of julienned vegetables and fruit wrapped in soft rice paper, complemented by a sweet and tangy plum dipping sauce.

As the name suggests, Rock Bar Bali’s location begs for a seafood-centric main course. The Grilled Sea Bass (IDR 250) is a solid choice, a perfectly cooked fillet atop a bed of celeriac puree, caramelised onions, and black olives. My pick, Lobster Orzo (IDR 480), gives me both a taste of the sea and the carbs I crave. Succulent local lobster is tossed with orzo pasta, given a whisper of heat from chilli peppers, and a rich tomato sauce with bacon bits. Both dishes are presented in cast iron skillets, adding rustic charm to the experience.
Rock Bar Bali Review
The true star of the show at Rock Bar Bali is undoubtedly the breathtaking view. Watching the sun melt into the horizon while sipping on expertly crafted cocktails and indulging in delicious tapas is an experience you won’t soon forget. So, whether you’re a seasoned traveller or a first-time visitor to Bali, Rock Bar Bali is a must-visit destination for panoramic views, tasty food, and vibrant cocktails. However, it doesn’t have to end here.
Continue the Party at After Rock
AYANA Bali recently expanded its evening entertainment options with the addition of After Rock. This two-story venue has live music performances, a curated cocktail menu, and a variety of spaces for guests to relax or socialise. After Rock is a natural extension of the resort’s existing dining options. We head up after our sundowners and dinner at Rock Bar, but it would also make sense post a dinner dining experience in any of the estate’s establishments, such as Scusa.
The ground-floor stage area hosts renowned DJs, live bands, and star cabaret performers against a mesmerising nine-metre-tall kinetic laser video wall. The mezzanine floor and adjacent VIP Room provide intimate spaces for up to 30 and 25 guests, respectively, with the option to enjoy live entertainment or host private karaoke parties. Take advantage of the rooftop, where you can dine under the stars while gazing at the lush gardens and architectural beauty of the nearby SAKA Museum.
