137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok
Monica Tindall
A getaway to Bangkok is always a welcome adventure and a stay at 137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok puts me right at the heart of the action. At the same time, the property offers a stylish and peaceful respite to recharge in between the thrills.
Location
137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok is about 20 kilometres from Don Mueang International Airport and less than 30 km from Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Grab or Bolt are convenient e-hailing services in Thailand, or the hotel can arrange a limo transfer. Shopping, fashion, dining and entertainment are on the property’s doorstep. If the rooms weren’t so well designed, you could almost hear the fry of pans in the city’s hottest restaurants and the sound of credit cards swiping in the seemingly never-ending shops in Em District below.
A complimentary shuttle service, “Louie the London Cab,” carries guests to the Phrom Phong BTS Sky Train, opening up endless possibilities for leisurely exploration, such as a direct line to Chatuchak Weekend Market. However, the options in EmQuartier (also one of “Louie’s” stops) are inexhaustible. The mega retail space covering 650,000 square metres could make for days, if not weeks, of enjoyment. When I go for a stroll, it’s abuzz with a happy crowd. A pop-up plant-based market fills the central courtyard with artisan vendors sharing their products. It’s a cool scene.
And that’s not even mentioning what’s available on foot around the suites and residences. Salons, boutiques, cafes, bars and exceptional dining experiences such as ADHOC are a mere stone’s throw away.
137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok
The fabulous location is all very well if you can manage to tear yourself away from the property. Designed with every comfort and convenience in mind, 137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok offers a noteworthy range of food and beverage, entertainment, and relaxation options on site.
First of all, the rooms are not just rooms. They’re high-end suites (34) or serviced residences (179). Fitted with a full kitchen as well as a washer and dryer, the apartment-style residences are well-suited to longer stays. However, I’m just popping over from Kuala Lumpur for a weekend, so the suites located on the top floors with exclusive access to the rooftop pool, Baan Borneo Club lounge, and butler service are perfect for my needs.
Ayutthaya Suite
The Ayutthaya Suite is a comfortable 95 sqm with a living room and dining area, pantry and wine cellar (chargeable), outdoor balcony, separate sleeping area, walk-in wardrobe, and marble bathroom.
The older I get, the more assistance I need to get a sound night’s sleep. The Ayutthaya Suite complies, with the option of king or twin beds, a quality mattress (a soft yet supportive Posturepedic Ultra Plush), cool Egyptian cotton linens, and a serious pillow menu (the cervicalopedic works for me). Separate from the bedroom is a walk-in wardrobe, keeping the space clutter-free. Easy-to-adjust lighting and air conditioning, alongside full black-out curtains, play their part, too.
It’s not just about the bedroom experience, though. Winding down pre-turn down is essential. I can’t resist a soak in the circular bathtub in the beautiful bathroom. All I have to do is message my butler and tell him when I want it ready! Himalayan bath salts, mood lighting, and the built-in television—or my own chill tunes humming from the quality Bose sound system—do the trick.
Fully refreshed, I appreciate the other thoughtful touches in the suite, such as universal plugs, a bag to borrow during my stay, and a welcome tray of local Thai sweets. The automated Japanese-style toilet has a delightfully warm seat that opens as I approach, and sensors trigger lights when I enter the room or closet. I feel like a princess.
The views from my 30th-floor suite are magnificent, and I’m grateful for a covered outdoor balcony from which to enjoy them. The patio has a rocking chair, coffee table and chair, and a day bed. A ceiling fan circulates the air, making it usable throughout the day.
Private Butler Service
And then there’s the private butler service. Available via WhatsApp, Line or direct call (the best when you need immediate assistance), the team, headed by the charming and gracious lead, Ron, is ever so helpful. Print my boarding pass, run a bath, deliver an extra pillow, show me how Chromecast works, bring a bucket of ice, local dining recommendations – they can’t do enough.
Baan Borneo Club
Besides having the pleasure of a butler for the weekend, guests staying in an Ayutthaya Suite also have access to the Baan Borneo Club daily from 7 am to 5 pm. This is a great spot to work, with all-day tea, coffee and light refreshments in the comfortable lounge. Furthermore, guests are not restricted to the morning to take brekkie. Instead, you can have it anytime between 7 am and 5 pm. That’s great if you’re up for some late nights immersed in Bangkok’s nightlife or simply if you just appreciate the flexibility of choice. Suite guests can also have brekkie in Bangkok Trading Post Bistro & Bar, but the club lounge offers more premium options, such as oysters and bubbly!
There’s also a bathroom with a shower here, making it a comfortable space if you have a later flight but have had to check out from your room already. Other inclusions are complimentary sundowners served at either Bangkok Trading Post on the ground floor or Nimitr Terrace on the 27th floor. The list has four red and white wines (Chilean and Thai), a French sparkling (quite nice), two signature cocktails, a handful of classics (can’t go wrong with a Negroni), basic spirits and beer. There’s also a light afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes from 2 pm to 5 pm.
Breakfast at Baan Borneo Club
Brekkie deserves a paragraph of its own, not only for its quality but because it’s available all day until 5 pm! An unlimited a la carte selection gifts the endless servings of a buffet with the quality of on-the-spot preparation. I’m all in for a healthy beginning, trying the Egg White Omelette with Asparagus, Avocado and Dried Coconut Chips (delicious) and Acai Bowl with Yoghurt, Granola and Berries (a little too sweet for my preferences). I head to Bangkok Trading Post to start my second morning, but if staying longer, I’d have my eye on the Baked Portobello Mushroom topped with Tomatoes and Cheese, and Avocado and Figs on Toast. A Continental buffet supports the a la carte dishes until 11 am with fresh fruit, nuts, cereal, pastries, cold cuts, cheese and salad. There’s even a leg of Iberico ham for slicing!
Espresso-based and Thai coffees, along with tea, are the base of the hot beverages, while fresh juice blends and health shots give plenty of choice for something cool. If you’re here to party, the team has even curated some brekkie cocktails – take your pick from a Bloody Mary, Yuzu Daiquiri or bubbly given colour with butterfly pea flower.
Restaurants & Bars at 137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok
In addition to having an abundance of dining options, mere footsteps from the hotel, 137 Pillars Suites & Residences has several noteworthy food and beverage outlets.
Nimitr
Nimitr is no ordinary hotel restaurant. Sitting on the 27th floor, the elegant space is beautiful and provides spectacular skyline views. We arrive just before sunset, catching the magical change of light between day and night. Meaning “Special Dream” in Thai, Nimitr presents elevated interpretations of local cuisine. You can even pair them with some decent drops of award-winning Thai wine from Khao Yai. Read more about our dining experience and recommendations on what to order and where to sit at Nimitr here.
Bangkok Trading Post
On the ground floor, Bangkok Trading Post Bistro & Bar seats in-house guests alongside Bangkok’s hip residents and their furry friends. The contemporary café has a well-chilled indoor area and a pet-friendly al fresco patio. A predominantly Western menu serves all-day breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is supported by a specialty coffee and drinks list. Read about my experience at Bangkok Trading Post Bistro & Bar here.
Facilities
When I researched 137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok online, an overwhelming number of reviews jumped straight to the property’s rooftop infinity-edged pool with 360-degree views of the city. While the rooms and service all got high marks, the pool is undoubtedly a memorable feature! It’s set with cabanas providing a little shade and privacy, and guests staying in the suites have 24-hour access, which is a striking contrast to most hotels that often shut things down at 8 pm. Furthermore, two Jacuzzis offer heated bubbles, which feel divine after a day on my feet. I love them so much that I start and end my day here, seeing both sunrise and sunset from the rooftop.
On level 27, a second pool with one giant Jacuzzi is found. Being shaded and with a full bar and snack service, there are many more people here than on the rooftop. It’s too busy for me, but I can see its appeal if you’re feeling social.
Besides the fabulous pools, the sixth floor has more opportunities for fitness and relaxation, including a brightly lit gymnasium (with a handful of cardio machines, rack of free weights, mats, balls, etc.), outdoor putting green, and driving range. I don’t have time for a spa session, but Nitra Serenity Centre would be on my agenda for a longer stay.
