Have you ever dreamt about having a 5-star meal with a personalised and curated menu without leaving the comfort of your own home? It is now a real possibility here in KL! Chef Malcolm Goh and his team at JustGood Private Dining bring quality, local ingredients (with much of the fresh produce coming from their nearby sustainable farm) and will take care of every last detail to provide a memorable meal. The team will come to wherever you are – whether that’s at home, at a hotel or office space. We are lucky to have our own little private luncheon with a curated menu for The Yum List.

Relax

We begin our meal with the Relax course – a medley of torched brie, compressed shine muscat grapes, and Japanese cucumbers topped with julienned purple heirloom carrots and bright pomegranate seeds. It is served with an aromatic Asian tomato broth, which makes it extra comforting. From this starting course, we can tell that Chef Malcolm knows how to creatively pair fresh ingredients to balance sweet, savoury, and salty notes. The pop of colour from the carrot, pomegranate and Kyuri cucumber brings vibrancy and a yummy crunch. And let’s be honest – whenever hot cheese is one of the main components in a dish, it’s hard to miss the mark.

Revitalise

The JustGood Private Dining team prides itself on using fresh and local Malaysian ingredients. I’m pleased to try Chef Malcolm’s Revitalize course next – a generous slab of pan-roasted salmon wrapped in potato and served with a coconut curry laksa broth and ‘silver needle noodles’. The hand-formed rice noodles have a nice, chewy texture, but the chef also gets creative and serves some of the noodles in a crunchy, puffed form, which brings back some childhood nostalgia for our photographer, Han Sen. The fish is topped with black vinegar and asam boi cucumber salad. The pickled cucumber serves as a satisfying palate cleanser between each bite. The Revitalize course feels like a perfectly portioned dish of spicy, creamy, and savoury flavour.

Rejuvenate

We round off the meal with a rejuvenating honey yuzu granita with roasted pistachios, compressed dry mandarin peel apples, palm sugar and passionfruit coulis. Monica usually isn’t one for anything sweet, but she easily finishes this refreshing dessert course along with the rest of us. The tart and citrusy yuzu pairs really well with the sweet apple and mandarin peel. It’s a refreshing end to our private meal and leaves us feeling not overly bloated but superbly satiated.

JustGood Private Dining Review

We can tell that JustGood Private Dining’s team is full of passionate people who care about their local community and supporting sustainable efforts. During our time with them, there was a lot of mention of keeping Malaysian recipes alive and supporting local artisans and entrepreneurs. The JustGood Private Dining team is used to organising 4-7 course menus for a minimum of 250 MYR per pax. They can customise a menu for just two people or go up to 300 guests! They will consult with you to inquire about what cuisine you like and the ingredients you might want to feature. They’ll take care of all the logistics, including flowers and decor or any other special requests, as well as full clean up after the meal. I love hosting gatherings, but I always get a bit (or a lot more than a bit!) stressed leading up to the day with planning out all the details, so the idea of hiring the JustGood Private Dining team for my next gathering is very tempting. If you want to feel fancy without having to even put any shoes on and step outside, then I’d highly recommend hiring Chef Malcolm and his team to come whip up a private meal for you.
