Tapestry at The Gardens Mall: All-Day Dining Done Right

At Tapestry, you might be surprised by the sheer variety on the menu, and even more surprised that a mall restaurant could serve food of such quality. On weekday afternoons, queues form steadily, and by the weekend, the space is buzzing with families. What’s their secret?

It likely comes down to the vision of Tan Boon Wy, founder and CEO of the WYLD Group, whose passion for the F&B industry is reflected in the steady growth of original homegrown brands—most notably Eight Ounce Coffee Co.(8oz), his first and most established concept. Known for its artisanal brews, 8oz offers a signature house blend alongside a rotating selection of specialty beans. Since 2013, it has maintained its quality and loyal following across three locations: The Gardens Mall, KLCC, and The Exchange TRX. And good news for all—at Tapestry, the coffee program is proudly powered by 8oz, rounding out the restaurant’s contemporary all-day dining experience in a mall setting.

Tapestry – The Gardens Mall

If you’ve been to the original Tapestry at Jalan Kamunting, Chow Kit, you’d remember the stunning glasshouse design—flooded with natural light, brick walls, towering windows, and tapestries cascading from the ceiling. While The Gardens Mall outlet understandably adapts to the constraints of a mall, it still carries its own distinct charm. And clearly, that hasn’t stopped the team from pushing boundaries. We hear this is just the first of more mall locations to come.

To Start

We kicked off with freshly brewed 8oz coffee, naturally, followed by a spread that had us spoilt for choice. From five house-made smoothie bowls, we settled on the Horchata (RM23)—a nourishing blend of almond butter, gula Melaka, coconut milk, yoghurt, fresh fruits, toasted coconut flakes, granola, and chia seeds. Every spoonful offered a satisfying balance of natural sweetness and texture.

One of the stars of the morning was the Eggs Benedict (RM35), a Tapestry signature since its inception and a consistent bestseller. Served on a “Bubble and Squeak” base with grilled paneer and perfectly poached eggs, it now features a new addition—ikura, offering a delicate burst of umami. The updated version is now available at both outlets, adding a refined touch to an already well-loved dish.

Another favourite was the Burrata and Tomato (RM55), a simple open-faced sandwich that showcased the beauty of fresh ingredients. And yes, all breads are baked in-house.

A recent addition to the menu is their yeasted waffles segment. We tried the Salted Egg-Yolk & Vanilla (RM30). Don’t let the modest plating fool you—the flavours were spot on. A house-made salted egg cream anglaise brought a savoury contrast to the creamy vanilla ice cream, the perfect yin and yang.

Fun fact: our entire breakfast was meat-free, proving that a wholesome start can be both hearty and satisfying.

From Morning to Midday

With such a wide-ranging menu, we found ourselves eager to explore beyond breakfast. Thankfully, Tapestry at The Gardens Mall makes it easy to transition into lunch without missing a beat. After a short breather and a few more sips of coffee, we dived into the next round of dishes.

Mains

The Garlic Labneh Salad (RM35) was a colourful and flavourful combination of charred broccoli, roasted pumpkin, and house-made garlic labneh with harissa—a mix of spicy, savoury, and sweet.

Next came the Ginger Flower Duck Confit Spaghetti (RM39), a refined version of the original from Jalan Kamunting. Fragrant and well-spiced, it’s a dish that hits all the right notes.

The Laksa Goreng Spaghetti (RM40) was another standout, cleverly marrying local laksa flavours with Western pasta. Their secret house-made rempah, paired with bunga kantan, shallots, and a squeeze of calamansi, made it a punchy and satisfying main.

The real showstopper, however, was the Salmon Pesto Risotto (RM48). Made with Japanese short-grain rice instead of traditional arborio, this version avoids the all-too-common undercooked bite. It held its texture beautifully, and the pesto was just right—not too strong, just enough to coat each grain. The salmon was generous and lightly seasoned, pairing nicely with the richness of the rice.

Drinks Menu

Though too full for dessert (Tapestry offers over 20 house-baked cakes and tarts on display), we opted for something refreshing instead. The Blue Pea Lemonade (RM18), known fondly in Malay as bunga telang, gets its striking hue from the vibrant butterfly pea flower and delivers a tangy, spritely finish. The Orange Oasis (RM18), made with freshly squeezed Navel and Valencia oranges, was naturally sweet and uplifting. Meanwhile, the Mighty Green (RM18), a blend of cucumber, mint, spinach, ginger, orange, and green apple, was Mon’s pick and the healthiest choice of the lot. All three made for a bright and refreshing end to our meal.
