IR 1968, Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

IR 1968 brings to KL upscale Indonesian food with a hint of Hong Kong influence.   Friendly and informative service combined with pleasant indoor and outdoor seating options makes for a fine retreat from the Ampang noise and chaos.  The menu appears rather pricey for Indonesian cuisine but the quality comes close to meriting the cost.  Ox tongue steaks are their speciality – super tender tongue in a sweet and slightly tangy sauce.  Not something I’d usually order but we were convinced by the manager that this is THE meal to try on the menu.  Apparently, the Hong Kong outlet got their Michelin Star this year for this dish in particular.  Other items are tasty too and food presentation is pretty and inviting.

Indonesian – good to know. Didn't realize there was an Indonesian restaurant back there.

I tried some soups and salads here and both were full of flavour.

I ate here and enjoyed the food, service and setting but there weren't many people there. Wonder how long it will last?

  8. We were the only ones in the restaurant at dinner time. It was the middle of the week and probably early for Malaysian time but still by the time we finished only a couple of tables had filled up.
