Andale andale! Get yourself over to the Renaissance Hotel and transport your taste buds to the lively Latin American country of Venezuela. Passionate author and Chef Carmen Rawstron has prepared a mouth watering sampling of classic Venezuelan dishes as part of the country’s yearly cultural and business celebrations. These tastes of the Caribbean will be featured as part of Vogue Cafe’s evening buffet for the next two weeks, April 16 – 29.
Besides the regular Vogue options, expect to see many endeared national recipes headlining the buffet. Pabellon Criollo is regarded as Venezuela’s sovereign dish. Combine white rice, black beans, shredded beef and fried plantains to fabricate this plate ending with a balance of savoury and sweet. Tequenos are an obligatory party snack and no wedding would be complete without bountiful platters of these hot cheese logs being passed around. Another jewel at any time of day, but especially suited to days at the beach, are empanadas. These fold over pastries are made with a corn dough, filled with minced beef, shredded chicken, cheese or any number of other stuffings, then deep fried and devoured hot out of the pot – usually with copious napkins to contain the moisture that would otherwise drip down your arm and chin. Your experience won’t be consummated until you try the Pan de Jamon – a soft bread dough roll-up of ham, olives and raisins, habitually eaten around Christmas. Treated as gold by the expatriate community in KL, it is shamelessly coveted, so get a piece on your plate early on before it disappears.
With stomach’s replete, you might consider dancing off some of those calories at the Venezuela Party, April 27th at Modestos, Cap Square.  See http://thevenezuelanweek.blogspot.com/ for more details of the fiesta and other related events.
Dinner Buffet is available from 6:30 – 10:30pm, April 16 – 29, and costs 86++ RM per person

    • You've got two weeks to give it a try! Rice pudding is common throughout South America. Each country adds their own unique flavouring to it such as cinnamon, raisins, vanilla etc.
