Local Resident
Nam, homed in Bon Ton Resort, has been recognized for many years as an excellent restaurant on Langkawi island serving consistently delicious food. With the same chef in charge for over 10 years it’s no wonder reports are constantly good. Open, breezy, green and facing west over a reedy lagoon, it is an attractive change to the beach sunsets in nearby Pantai Cenang. Offering a unique view for sundowners, happy hour is the perfect time to arrive for a colour inspired change of time.
Pineapple Mint
Tea
Fresh fruits and local herbs and spices are common ingredients in the broad cocktail list. A decent selection of wines and spirits too complete the drinks menu. Cocktails are either RM22 or RM24 and are offered two
for the price of one from 5 – 7pm. We found the: Lime Margarita with lime, tequila, Cointreau and sugar syrup; the Moscow Mule made from vodka, lime juice, mint, angostura bitters and topped up with ginger beer; the Strawberry Daiquiri – Bacardi, fresh blended strawberries, sugar syrup and ice and; the Caipirinha – cachaza, sugar syrup and lime, to all merit reorders. To soak up the alcohol, something to nibble on, such as the Mezze Platter, is a sound idea. A banana leaf topped with various dips and salads made an aesthetic display. Home made chermoula, hummus, harissa, dukka, olive oil, rocket and preserved lemon salad with a balsamic lime dressing are served aside Turkish and pita bread. A trip to Bon Ton could easily be justified purely by ordering a cocktail and the Mezze Platter – both worth traveling for.
Lime Pineapple
& Ginger
An all day dining menu has been designed with the tourist at leisure in mind. Starting from lunch and continuing throughout the day into the late evening, the menu evolves from lunch to nibbles to dinner. Specializing in
Nyonya cuisine, the Nyonya Laksa and Nyonya Platter are must tries. The Nyonya Platter is presented on a tray of banana leaves with nine tasting dishes. The menu advises that the portion is for one, but we found it big
enough for two.  A combination of Malay and Chinese Cuisine relating back to the Spice Trade Era is what is highlighted. Dishes served on a banana leaf consist of prawns in pandan leaf, fish tamarind, beef with peanuts, chicken with lime leaf, pickled lamb curry, ladies finger sambal, pineapple acar, eggplant in a coconut curry and mango with cashew rice. The Nyonya Laksa is a house specialty of prawns, chicken and noodles in a spicy (although not too hot for Western taste buds) coconut soup. Slurping up the last drops, we vowed a repeat order before leaving the island.

Nam Restaurant
The chefs at Nam, make all of their own desserts and ice creams. You can purchase cakes for special occasions, but do remember to order in advance. We tried the Local Dessert Plate of sticky black rice and palm sugar crème caramel (!), warm red rice with sweet coconut cream and coconut ice cream with fresh mango, banana and passionfruit salad. There is something about coconut cream, tropical fruits, palm sugar and black and red rice that is addictive and wholesome concurrently.
