The first of its kind in Kuala Lumpur, Chavana Spa has opened at Pullman Kuala Lumpur Bangsar. Under the larger Mandara Spa company, Chavana Spa sets forth to share the Balinese spirit in a welcoming urban setting.

Located on level four of the hotel, Chavana Spa houses 10 treatment rooms, a manicure-pedicure area, separate male and female relaxation lounges, steam, shower and jacuzzi facilities and a dedicated reception and retail area. Visitors may also utilize the well-stocked gymnasium, and swimming pool shared with the hotel.

Chavana Spa Menu

Named after the discoverer of the fountain of youth, Chavana Spa aims to leave guests feeling refreshed, joyful and full of energy. The spa menu reflects this with a comprehensive list of massage, facial, body and beauty treatments. Products used are either ground and made freshly in house from natural ingredients or from the quality ELEMIS range. Today I’m booked in for four hours of pampering.

I am greeted in the reception with a chilled, moist towel and pot of jasmine tea. After filling out a short questionnaire, I’m escorted to a spacious treatment room. It is self-contained with its own jacuzzi, shower, toilet and small cupboard to store belongings. (Lockers are also available in the changerooms). The treatment bed is firm and more than long enough for my tall frame.

Massage

No spa is worth its relaxing setting though unless the massage therapists are top-notch. The Muscle Ease Massage (50 minutes, RM205) is a good indicator of the skill of the team at Chavana Spa as it is a session that requires both strength and technique.

My therapist is indeed, strong. She reaches deep into muscles easing tension and kneading out stress-related knots. She begins with the feet, calves and hamstrings before moving onto the back and shoulders while I’m prone. Switching to a supine position, she again works up the body starting with the legs and then onto the shoulders, arm and head.

Her movements reflect a transition from larger to more specific work. First, it’s long deep strokes using elbows and forearms. Later the movements became more refined with the use of the heels of the hands and knuckles, and finally more pinpointed with thumbs and fingertips.

It’s an excellent massage. The tightness from my daily workout has gone.

Facial

After massage, I think the next most important items on a spa menu are facials. Using the ELEMIS range of skincare, the foundation is set for quality at Chavana Spa. The ELEMIS Sensitive Skin Soother Facial (60 minutes, RM320) at Chavana Spa gives delicate skin the special attention it needs. This facial treats fragile skin gently with soothing products and techniques to reduce redness and nourish the dermis. It aims to improve texture and increase moisture levels, leaving the skin supple and smooth.

Again, I’m appreciative of the training of the beautician. She works with a clear purpose to cleanse, scrub, tone, apply multiple masks, massage and put on serum and moisturizer. While masks are left to do their job, she massages the hands and head. It is much more than a beauty treatment but also a complete unwinding session.

Pedicure

Also on the Chavana Spa menu are a small number of beauty treatments. While the prices cannot compete with nail salons around the city, the experience is very much a private one in intimate surrounds (no mall-goers passing by here).

Both the Spa Pedicure (90 minutes, RM105) and Manicure (60 minutes, RM95) are much more than a simple file and colour. These lengthy treatments include a foot and hand soak, nail trimming, tidying of the cuticles, cleaning and colour, as well as a professional lower leg and arm massage.

Chavana Spa Review

Chavana Spa in Pullman Kuala Lumpur Bangsar has a team of well-trained therapists. Their treatment menu has all of the essentials covered, and their prices are slightly lower than some of the big hotels in the city. My experience here was positive. I would return again without a second thought.

Reasons to visit Chavana Spa: Chavana Spa aims to provide quality treatments in a fresh, approachable manner without the extreme prices and sometimes complicated menus of some luxury spas.

  1. Great place to relax and been pampered. I try to go for facial and body massage at least once a week.

  2. I could do with that right now! Hope all is well, Diane
