*Kind Kones closed this location in December 2020. It has now reopened just up the road in a corner shop lot. New address here.

It’s been quite some time since our last visit to Kind Kones and, gosh, I’d forgotten just how good their vegan ice cream is! This KL chain makes vegan ice cream as well as wholesome desserts and has an abundance of gluten-free and soy-free choices.

Vegan Ice Cream KL

Everything at this vegan ice cream shop in KL is made on natural, wholesome ingredients. You’ll find no artificial colourings or flavourings, no preservatives, no dairy, egg or soy in their ice cream (some desserts might contain soy), and the majority of their flavours are gluten-free!

There’s an extensive range of vegan ice cream to choose from on a variety of bases such as coconut, almond, cashew and water (sorbet). You can choose them served in a cup (or a tub if ordering delivery) or a cone with both wholemeal and gluten-free alternatives.

Cups

Pictured below are our top picks. In the first cup, Charcoal Vanilla is made on coconut milk, cashew milk, Japanese bamboo charcoal, vanilla and raw cane sugar. It is surprisingly creamy and smooth. We expected a bit more of a granular texture with the charcoal but it is velvety! It’s topped with a vibrant Passionfruit Sorbet – a simple combo of passionfruit, lemon and raw cane sugar. We loved the acidity in this one.

The second cup features one of Kind Kones’ best-sellers – Almond Brittle Fudge. There is no secret as to why this flavour is at the top. It’s a seductively creamy mix of coconut milk, cashew milk, vanilla, sea salt, raw cane sugar, almonds, cacao nibs, chia seeds and dairy-free chocolate chips. Basing the cup is the deeply-hued Keto Chocolate Sorbet. Cocoa powder, cocoa mass and xylitol are a dream team.

Cones

As mentioned earlier, cones are made in-house and come as wholemeal and gluten-free almond. Both have an excellent crunch but we love the additional nuttiness of the latter and there are no complaints from any of us about the drop of chocolate in the vertex.

In these photos, you’ll see Raspberry Ripple – a combo of coconut milk, cashew milk, almond milk, homemade raspberry compote and raw cane sugar; as well as Sunset Dream – coconut milk, almond milk, peach, strawberry, raw cane sugar, salt and cornflour. Lastly, Rich thinks the Blue Planet is just as tasty as it looks with butterfly pea flowers giving it a lovely pastel blue hue and matcha cake adding both texture a thread of astringency.

Wholesome Cakes

Besides vegan ice cream, Kind Kones in Plaza Damansara has a handful of wholesome cakes that make it easy to justify eating dessert any day – after all, those nuts are just providing you with the “good fats,” right?

We think the raw, Chunky Peanut Butter Cheesecake (RM16.90) is an absolute treasure. This gluten-free slice is layered with cashew cheese and roasted peanut chunks on a walnut and date caramel crust. The whole thing is drizzled with homemade chocolate fudge. Must order.

The Keto Passionfruit Cheesetart (RM 17.90) is a picture of cheery yellow. It’s a twist on a classic lemon tart but 100% plant-based and guilt-free! A nutty gluten-free crust is loaded with a rich layer of silken tofu cream cheese and topped with a nicely tart glaze of passionfruit jam.

Bliss Balls

Our final sweet indulgence at this vegan ice cream store in KL is a trio of bliss balls. Making excellent snacks or afternoon pick-me-ups, bliss balls are packed with superfood goodness. The Maca Espresso Fudge Superfood Bliss Ball (RM 6) contains maca powder, cocoa powder, coffee, almonds and dates. Dried cranberry, figs, chia seeds, almonds, dates and agave make up the Cranberry, Fig, Chia Seed Superfood Bliss Ball (RM 6). But the front runner of three is the well-balanced Lemon, Vanilla, & Coconut Cashew Superfood Bliss Ball (RM 6). It’s an addictive mix of nicely tangy lemon, vanilla, coconut, cashew and agave in a soft sphere with a lovely chewiness from the desiccated coconut.

  1. I have just finished my dinner. These ice creams will be perfect for dessert. Look so delicious.

  2. Blue Planet for me please.
I had some ultra blue chewing gum gelato in Italy a couple years ago.
    It was rather awful… Ha!

  3. Milk-free, soy-free…I’ve had coconut ice cream made from coconut milk. That’s vegan, I guess.

  4. I would be in heaven there, I love any icecream yum yum. Cheers Diane

  5. This is an establishment that would take off around here! I wish they had something like. Time to do some investigating. That passion fruit and charcoal vanilla is an interesting pairing.
