Drinkies – Booze Delivery Kuala Lumpur

Stocking up for the festive season (and possibly a little bit of “poor me I can’t go home” drinking too), we place an order with Drinkies. This online platform delivers chilled beverages to your door in the Klang Valley (JB, Penang, Melaka and Seremban too but limited to beer and cider). Order before 12 am for same-day service or place an advance order and schedule your loot for the desired day and time.

Drinkies stocks beer, cider, wine, spirits, soft drinks and even “draught at home”. It’s mostly bottom-shelf spirits with a few premium labels, approachable wines and popular beer brands, and they’re all sold at pretty reasonable prices. What’s more, get in this week and you’ll benefit from 12-12 promos. We were able to nab a couple with this order.

Beer

Heineken, Kirin Ichiban, Tiger, Guinness, Anchor and Birra Moretti make up the bulk of the beer section. Check online before Christmas and you can take advantage of some nicely packaged gift sets including glasses, chocolate and various other bits and pieces all stylishly presented in a box. We’re thinking ahead to the New Year and possibly already predicting some guilt from over indulging this festive season and pick up a pack of Heineken 0.0. This beer is said to taste just like the original only with zero alcohol and only 69 calories a can.

Wine

For Chrissy dinner, or even just some bread, cheese and conversation, a bottle of Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir is also in our order. We save RM12 with the 12-12 promo, grabbing the bottle from RM 157. Cloudy Bay is perhaps more famous for its sauvignon blanc but let me tell you that their pinot noir is very drinkable too. It’s fruit-forward on the nose with an undertone of earth and even a whisper of smoke. On the palate, it’s balanced with fruit and savoury notes, offers layers of complexity and concludes with a generous finish.

Champagne

For ringing in the New Year, we think bubbly is a must. On this occasion it shall be a bottle of G.H. Mumm Grand Cordon (RM268). Sourced from over 100 different crus, the blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier is the “definitive expression of the House style.” It’s spent 20 months ageing in the Maison’s cellars, producing a fresh, bold and intense ripe fruit character.

Spirits

Going under the Christmas tree for whisky-loving hubby this year is a bottle of The Glenrothes 12-Year-Old Whisky. It’s a reasonable RM298 and comes with a complimentary 100ml miniature (which I will most likely have to test out before the gift-giving takes place just to be sure of its quality). Drinkies have several whisky labels on their shelf but I chose this one for the season because of its rather festive notes. On the nose, you might find gingerbread, vanilla and possibly some ripe tropical fruit. Dried fruit, a nudge of chocolate, honeyed oak and even a hint of tobacco surfaces in the palate, with the finish playing out a long sweet symphony.

Belvedere Vodka (RM249) was chosen partly because I have such fond memories of Poland (vodka cocktails mixed with apple juice and cinnamon), and also because it’s such an easy mixer for cocktails in general. With friends visiting, although in limited numbers, vodka can be quickly combined with orange or cranberry juice, or made into a martini with very little fuss.

Cider

Lastly, we throw in a six-pack of Apple Fox Cider (also a 12-12 promo for RM33). It’s not something we drink ourselves, but does make a convenient go-to when neighbours or unexpected visitors pop in.
