Oysters & Chardonnay
From Poseidon Reserve, a dozen oysters seem oh-so-decadent but oh-so-good. We recently watched a TEDTalk about not leaving things for a special occasion as you never know what tomorrow will hold. The speaker proposes to light that scented candle, drink the Champagne and use your good china. We’re fully embracing the concept and match our lovely tray of Irish oysters with a bottle of Penfolds Max’s Chardonnay from Atlas Vineyard.
The iced oysters (RM 280, 12 pieces) come shucked with the shell covering the top. They’re plump and slide down the throat a dream. We like them naked, appreciating their natural sweetness, balanced saltiness and touch of smoke.
Penfolds Max’s Chardonnay (RM 159.90, current promo RM 139.90) is a tribute to Max Schubert 1948-1975, former chief winemaker and his pursuit of excellence. It’s pale straw in the glass with stone fruits and a hint of spice on the nose. Matured in small French oak barriques, the wine’s lingering acidity is balanced with a nutty creaminess and oak tannins. It pairs well with food, but we think it’s also scrumptious all on its own.
Premium Cold Cuts & Cheese
Coming from The Sinful Grillers is a nicely put-together cheese and cold cuts platter. The stars of the show are Artisan Sheep Truffle Cheese (RM 34, 100 g) and 5J Jamon (RM 164.90, 100g). Both are premium products imported from Spain. The ham is rather unique made from the extremities of the acorn-fed Iberian pig. It’s a pure bellota ham with sweet, intense and lingering flavours. Bread, honey, raisins and crackers complete the plate. This is a special treat worth savouring every bite, slowly and intentionally.
Atlas Pizzeria
The team at Atlas also make a really decent pizza. The crust is thin with both a bit of crunch and chew and slightly puffy around the edges. I like to keep things simple when it comes to toppings, so the Back to Basics (RM 38) is well-suited. Cherry tomatoes, basil, sun-dried tomatoes, house-made tomato sauce and mozzarella make an excellent meat-free option.
Atlas Bistro
Another cool service at Atlas Bistro is the sale of meat as raw or cooked. You can purchase steaks to cook yourself at home or let the chef prepare them for you. Black Angus, Wagyu and Dry-Aged cuts form a select menu. I prefer leaner cuts, hence my choice of Aussie Black Angus Filet Mignon (RM 39.90, 100g). The piece is taken from the tenderloin’s smaller end, a muscle not toughened by weight-bearing exercise. The result is an extremely tender piece of meat, that is best enjoyed (in my opinion) simply cooked and within minimal seasonings of salt and pepper.
Promotional Items
Deli Tasty Bowls make tasty, nutritious and convenient lunches. Most hover around RM 12.90. Our California-san Bowl (RM15.90) is based on short-grain rice and packed with flavour thanks to corn, seaweed, shredded veg and fresh salmon. This is something we could have several lunches a week and not tire of it.
Well-timed for Chinese New Year, Yee Sang (RM118) is available from the 1st of February until the end of the month. It’s a beautiful platter arranged with vibrant veg, fruit and condiments. Salmon sashimi in wasabi and chilli is the protagonist supported by watermelon, lychee, pomelo, young mango, pickled beetroot and an addictive plum and apricot dressing. It’s incredibly fresh; a wonderful way to toss for prosperity and the new year.
Grocery Food & Wine Delivery KL – Atlas Gourmet Market
From the market, there are a whole bunch of gourmet items to stock our shelves. What’s more, is that they are also attractively packaged. Now that our cupboards are so clean thanks to several cleanouts over the pandemic, it’s nice to line them with good looking products. AGM Back Pepper Grinder (RM34.90) filled with Sarawak pepper, AGM Himalayan Pink Salt Grinder (RM34.90) and AGM Ground Turmeric (RM15.90) are premium quality as expected. You won’t find these on the menu below, but you can ask for whatever condiments you need when you make an order. Alternatively, you can browse the shelves in person.

This market sure knows how to deliver all of the conveniences! That California-sans Bowl is quite delicious and colorful. I must admit I was caught off-guard by a photo of something in a hand…..looked like cluster of brown sugar. I thought it was a sampling from a dessert at the Market. I was shocked by the revelation as to what it was and then realized it was a pop-up ad. I had to laugh at myself.
I need to get back to cold cuts & wine & cheese, miss those!
