Sessions – Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast
Monica Tindall
The all-day-dining restaurant, Sessions, at Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast is just as lively as the hotel lobby. A stream of rock beats blast from several quality speakers, and the sounds of the water park next door contributes a definite buzz. There’s an air-conditioned section and a covered patio cooled by fans. We take roost at the semi-alfresco tables with views of the wave pool next door.
Sessions Restaurant Menu
Sessions offers a selection of western and local meals alongside a comprehensive drinks list. Our healthy preferences appreciate the wholesome options, but there is plenty for lovers of burgers and noodles too.
Soup
Starting with local flavours, the Angus Oxtail Soup (RM 36) is highly aromatic. Packed with pieces of tail, herbs, spices, some veg, fried shallots and spring onions, it reaches every corner of the palate. This is a delicious soup, heavy on the chilli, but the addictive tang of lime keeps us digging back in for more.
Sessions Hard Rock Hotel – Salads
For me, the Winter Salad with Lemon Chicken (RM 28) makes a fine lunch. It’s packed with chickpeas, spinach, pomegranate, mandarin segments, avocado mash, shallots and herbs. Grilled lemon chicken bulks up the salad turning it into a main for lighter eaters like me.
The Quinoa Salad (RM 26) is better suited as a side or starter. The grains are mixed with something, perhaps a tempestine pasta, adding bulk. Finely chopped vegetables and feta are tossed together with a lemon herb dressing.
Mains
Our lead up to the principal plates were tasty and fresh, but you could probably get away with just having a main on its own, considering the portion size. The Grilled King Salmon Fillet (RM 122) is well grilled with a charcoal top. Cauliflower, broccoli and garlic-mashed potato carry the weight of the fish, and a red bell pepper sauce and capers are excellent complements.
Sessions Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast – Drinks
My healthy lunch deserves a matching beverage, and the Sessions drinks menu offers a handful of fresh juices. There’s a standard menu of single items, but the team are happy to add a splash of orange to my Carrot (RM 12). Hubby goes with the Mixed Berry Smoothie (RM 18). It’s a sweet combo of blueberries, strawberries and orange juice, possibly with a touch of syrup.

I’ve never had Ox tail soup. I’m sure would choose to dine outdoors.
Coffee is on and stay safe
