Provisions OOAK is a bakery, coffee shop, and supply store all in one right in the heart of Mont Kiara. As the name rightly implies, “supply with food and drink,” Provisions at the OOAK Suites & Residence do more than the name states.

You might be surprised that such a fabulous cafe can be tucked inside a condominium complex. Still, upon arrival, you are instantly transported to the cafes of Melbourne and the artisan bakeries of California. These are the locations from which the owners drew their inspiration for this space. Provisions OOAK, Mont Kiara, is managed by the same team as LI Restaurant and Provisions in Damansara Jaya. Their motif colours are a delicious burnt sienna and white that remind me of a slice of comforting pumpkin pie. These colours add energy, optimism, and calmness. The sweet circular tables, little nooks, and large bakery display case make me want to meet with friends, catch up on the most recent news, take photos for social media, or simply enjoy a delightful cup of coffee. The cafe and bakery sell a variety of pastries, drinks, desserts, jams and bread for both dine-in and takeaway.

Provisions OOAK, Mont Kiara offers a variety of cafe-style beverages, including coffee, tea, kombucha and cold-pressed juices. Mon always has to have Kombucha (RM14), so I am quickly becoming a connoisseur. The team collaborate with a small, local business Ragi and their brews are not to be missed. The passionfruit flavour consists of black tea, green tea, organic raw cane sugar, and, of course, passionfruit. It is homebrewed in small batches to preserve flavour and health benefits.

Coffee is also a must in our cafe orders, and we enjoy an assortment of hot and cold drinks – Flat White (RM12), Espresso (RM8) and Colombian cold brew Just Black (RM10). A dairy alternative is available with Oatside Barista Oatmilk for an additional RM4.

All-Day Breakfast – Provisions OOAK, Mont Kiara

Benefiting from their central bakery, Provisions OOAK, Mont Kiara, has a carb-happy menu. The Provisions at the Ooak Breakfast (RM 33) includes slices of their house-made sourdough with generous portions of scrambled eggs, avocado, smoked salmon, dill yogurt dressing and a green side salad. It was so satisfying to load a piece of sourdough bread with the salmon, avocado, some scrambled eggs, and dill yoghurt. This is ideal for those who appreciate a full breakfast but seek something a little lighter than traditional sausages and bacon first thing in the morning. The dill yoghurt adds a perfect punch to this meal. 

The star dish for me was Provisions French Toast (RM 23). They use a doubly-thick slice of wholemeal sourdough delicately seeped in their own egg batter and cooked to a rich golden brown. Provisions must have a talented chef as he was able to cook this tasty morsel thoroughly, which is no easy feat for the thickness of the bread. This plate is served with creamy, thick, savoury ricotta cheese topped with jam on the side. This way, you can make your French toast as sweet as you prefer.

The Grilled Cheese Sandwich (RM 24) served with tomato soup is a complete meal in itself. The rustic, silky, and comforting tomato soup is excellent dipping material, its sweetness balancing the saltiness of the cheese sourdough toastie. 

While we are lovers of Provisions spongy sourdough, they also make a darn good milk bread. We tried it with the Egg Salad Sandwich (RM 15). The soft, airy milk slices held a liberal filling of tasty, satisfying egg salad. I imagine this would be a great to-go item to eat on the run.

Desserts 

Of course, a cafe-bakery should have a solid dessert selection, and Provisions OOAK, Mont Kiara, doesn’t disappoint. Rich and I were pleased to try the Lemon Tart (RM 12), Carrot Cake (RM 16) and Kaya Doughnut (RM 10). Growing up in Canada, my favourite dessert was a tangy lemon meringue pie my parents would bake together. This tart brought me back to these happy family memories. The lemon curd was zesty and flavourful, the crust was feathery and flaky, and the meringue was fluffy and melted on my tongue. 

The carrot cake was nutty, aromatic, and moist with plentiful shredded carrots. The cake base was rich, and the cream cheese frosting was slightly tangy yet smooth. The cake was well-balanced and would be a great companion to any hot drink options.

Lastly, Provisions doughnuts are bound to be a hit any time of the day. These giant balls of aerated goodness come with various fillings, but the house-made kaya is the most popular. This local coconut jam is so well-liked that it’s even sold by the jar to take home – a thick layer of that on sourdough toast sounds like the perfect breakfast. 

Provisions OOAK, Mont Kiara Review

Provisions OOAK, Mont Kiara, definitely lived up to their name. They supplied us with ample food, drink, and a welcoming setting. Easy access for the Mont Kiara community is sure to see it a popular spot to pick up some goodies to-go or to dine in for a meal or snack.

How to Reach Provisions OOAK, Mont Kiara

There are a few ways to reach this cafe. The first way is by using road access. If you are driving or walking, you can type in the address for OOAK Suites (5 Jalan Kiara 4, Mont Kiara, 50480, Kuala Lumpur) into Waze or your preferred GPS system. Once you arrive, mention to security that you are visiting the cafe, and they will show you where you can park for free for one hour at the front of the building. If you plan to stay in the area longer, you may want to park in the 163 Retail Parking Lot, which is the second way to reach this location. At the rear of the cafe, there is an entrance from the 163 Retail Parking Lot. Once inside the mall, if you continue down the same hallway as the parking garage, you will end up at the escalator beside Jaya Grocer. This is the third way to reach this location.
