Amanda Chin – Contributing Writer at The Yum List
Amanda Chin, contributing writer at The Yum List, shares a little about her background, food and travel preferences and gives some insight into her role.
What’s your role at The Yum List?
I’m a contributing writer!
When you’re not Yum Listing…
I do other freelance writing, social media work and reading. I also love dancing, eating, photography and travelling — who doesn’t?
Tell us a little about your background.
I was born in Malaysia but lived abroad for the first half of my life — Jakarta, Taipei, Caracas and Mexico, so I speak fluent Spanish!
What are your food and beverage preferences?
I’m a huge fan of Latin cuisine!
Go-to drink?
Tequila in shots.
What is comfort food for you?
Tacos but the proper ones with soft corn tortillas and a simple but delicious filling that’s either pork or beef.
What style of traveller are you?
I like travelling for music festivals and culture — I love visiting European places.
What’s in your fridge?
Mostly fruits and face masks.
What do you like to cook?
Rarely, sometimes will I make eggs — I prefer to eat other people’s cooking.
What do you look for in a menu?
I like looking at the variety of salads a restaurant has, and also, when I can’t make a decision, I opt for something simple like mashed potatoes or spaghetti bolognese, as that’s hard to mess up.
What do you do for fun?
I try to make everything I do fun!
What is your favourite place to travel to?
For now, the top contender is Lisbon!
Something unexpected you discovered with The Yum List…
All my friends find it super helpful to look through the articles, especially when they have friends or family visiting — it’s easy to pick a spot from the reviews.
Most delicious Yum List experience…
Eating at Taco King, even though it was a short but sweet ride.
Pet food and beverage peeves…
I can’t stand people who chew with their mouths open and make noise as they do. It puts me off eating!
What are you reading at the moment?
A book about mushrooms and their importance in our lives – very interesting.
Final words…
I think the best experiences you can have are social ones over the table with food and drinks. Not only is it a great way to get to know people, but it’s also a way to satisfy your palate! Food keeps getting more and more innovative as we progress.
