What a Nice Clean Kitchen

Thai Restaurant Ampang

We started our culinary journey in the northern region where Chiang Mai is located and Thai coconut curries top the menu. Khao Soi (RM22), a traditional favourite, is typically made with a chicken drumstick simmered for hours to perfect tenderness. It’s a generously-sized bowl with thick and creamy coconut curry sauce, slurp-worthy wonton noodles, crisp and crunchy noodles on top, a squeeze of lime for tang and chilli pepper for spice. Many high-quality ingredients are toasted before blending for a deeper flavour and aroma. A bowl of Khao Soi is the perfect Thai comfort food.

All good food comes with a story, and Crying Tiger Beef (RM 59) is no exception. The Isaan region in Northeast Thailand tells the tale of beef so tender and juicy that it was eaten up by villagers leaving nothing for the tiger, thus leaving the tiger hungry and crying. At The SIAM Thai Cuisine, this dish is made with flavourful Brazilian beef marinated with herbs and seasonings. It’s seared to perfection and served with a spicy dipping sauce. It is so deliciously flavourful that both my mouth and eyes watered while my appetite roared for more.

Although the sweet and spicy veg-based Tom Yum Mushroom Soup (RM25 Small/RM45 Large) is the most popular soup from the Central Region, Tom Ka Gai (RM 29 Small/RM 55 Large) is an often overlooked sister with a lot to say. It’s a classic chicken soup with lemongrass and kefir lime leaves steeped in fresh coconut milk for a creamy base. Tom Kai Gai boasts a balance of sweet, spicy, sour and salty flavours. This soup is a nice alternative to Tom Yum Mushroom Soup and will surely become a personal favourite.

From Southern Thailand, the savoury Phuket Crab Curry (RM59) is both visually and gastronomically pleasing. A set displays freshly shelled crab atop the curry with betel leaves and various fresh vegetables, including long beans, lettuce, bean sprouts, shredded carrots, cabbage, and rice noodles. A sprinkle of violet butterfly pea blossoms adds a pop of colour and creates a delightful presentation. To maintain the authentically complex and satisfying balance of sweet and spicy, Chef Nita imports the special curry paste from Phuket. This dish is a highlight on the menu and a must for crab meat lovers.

Vegetarian Pad Thai (RM18) is a popular fried noodle dish throughout Thailand. The SIAM Thai Cuisine’s vegetarian version includes the traditional beansprouts and peanuts along with tofu for added protein. It is a solid choice for vegetarians.

Set 1 offers a choice of five different chicken dishes with fried egg, a spring roll appetizer and iced lemon tea. Drinks Menu

The extensive drink menu includes hot and iced coffees, sodas, waters, fresh fruit juices and smoothies. I opted for an ice-cold Thai Fresh Coconut (RM12) to cool my palate and refresh my senses. All drink options are RM14 and below making drinks an affordable addition to the meal.
