Tucked away behind a petrol station on Bukit Bintang, you’d never guess such a chic and green boutique hotel was to be found. KLoé sets the standards in the city for accommodation coolness, featuring stylishly designed rooms, seven-storey plant walls, and, hands-down, the best cup of coffee delivered at a hotel breakfast in KL.
Location
Just a few minutes walk from Bukit Bintang, strips and strips of malls, dining, and entertainment await. Jalan Alor (food street) and Changkat (party district) are on the other side of the road, and the Bukit Bintang MRT station (a 10-minute walk away) provides traffic-free routes to Chinatown, Bangsar, and Brickfields. This boutique hotel is ideal for leisure travellers or residents wanting an easy and affordable break in the form of a staycation.

Possibly the most striking feature of the hotel is lush plant walls with vines winding from the roof down to the pool. The leafy foliage inspires tranquillity and is a fresh respite from the bustling city on its doorstep. In addition to the green space and lap pool with loungers, KLoé has a studio/ event space where frequent events and classes are held. Follow their social media platforms for DJs, art classes, artisan markets and much more.
Furthermore, the hotel is home to Monroe, a modern American restaurant modelled after NYC diners and LA Cafes, and also houses Lucky, a hip café in the lobby. In-house guests are entitled to a 20% discount on all food items at Monroe, too! Both have the vibe of fashionable independent establishments. Café hoppers, lads who lunch, the brunch gang and those wanting to not only fill their Instagram feed with attractive pics but also satisfy their stomachs with wholesome, delicious food and beverages are regulars here. Rooms at KLoé!
If you’re using the hotel for a base and plan on being out exploring most of the time, you don’t need more than a standard room. The fittings are high-quality, and the bedding is excellent. Wonderfully aromatic Aesop bath products are supplied in refillable pumps, and amenities packed in paper rather than plastic, including bamboo toothbrushes, hint at the hotel’s attempts for greener living.
The rooms are excellent headquarters for your KL holiday. However, if you’re planning a staycation where you’d like to spend more time in your room and less outdoors, the Artist Lofts are something special. There are only five of them, so book well in advance if that’s your dream.
Artist Lofts
Modelled around the workspaces of artists, each studio is uniquely furnished to reflect a theme – art, music, books, food and gardens. Besides the themed adornment, artist lofts offer double the space of a standard room, with a room to lounge or create, a separate bedroom, and a bathroom that includes a large tub. When the boutique hotel first opened, we stayed in Room to Grow, filled with plants and gardening accessories. We’re in Room to Taste this round, which I’m sure you’ll agree makes good sense for The Yum List.
Celebrity chef Sarah Huang Benjamin curated the room to resemble a homely kitchen. Alongside a dining table and small kitchenette, there’s a collection of food-related books, iconic Malaysian snacks, soft drinks and welcome treats. Additionally, you can request a box of ingredients to make the three local recipes Sarah provided in your bespoke kitchen – spiced coffee, kaya toast and a local fruit salad. The supplies could easily be sufficient for a mid-morning break, afternoon tea time, or light brekkie. And you can choose the latter without worrying about conflicting with a limited hotel breakfast schedule, as the meal included in breakfast packages at KLoé can be taken at any time of the day!

What breakfast lacks in variety, the boutique hotel makes up for in quality and timing. They serve the best coffee out of any hotel in Kuala Lumpur, and you can enjoy it anytime between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. daily! The menu is a simple set including a small bowl of granola, yoghurt and honey (if you don’t have a sweet tooth, ask for it without the honey and berry compote), a choice of filling on a brioche bun, and a choice tea, coffee or juice (freshly squeezed). There are currently no vegan or gluten-free options.
Room Rates & Packages
Booking directly through KLoé’s website guarantees the best rate as well as a few little extras. Currently, direct bookers are rewarded with a welcome cocktail for two by the pool, as well as a voucher for a non-alcoholic beverage at Lucky Coffee Bar. As breakfast is a limited set, including only one drink, hubby used his voucher for juice, and I used mine for a second cup of coffee.
