333 At the Beach offers open-walled and alfresco dining for lunch and dinner daily, right on the shores of Kamala Beach, Phuket. A border of magnificent pine trees draws a line between the beach and the restaurant, providing shade and a pretty green outlook alongside lovely sea views. DJs spin five days a week from 4 pm, furnishing the perfect soundtrack for sundowners by the sea, and a fire show lights up the skies on Tuesday evenings.

333 At the Beach looks like an independent beach restaurant, but it is part of the InterContinental Resort Phuket, and can be accessed from the shore, main road, or by walking next door from the hotel.

333 At the Beach Menu

The kitchen is known for its charcoal grill, fresh seafood and plentiful plant-based recipes. And, of course, there is an extensive list of drinks ready to quench any thirst. We hydrate with Chilled Coconuts (THB 195++ ); they are so sweet and refreshing! Then we move on to glasses of Nicolas Feuillatte, Brut Rose NV (THB 790++), flawless lunchtime tipples. As we wait for our food, a tray of snacks – peanuts with kaffir lime, southern Thai-style fish crackers, and banana crisps with paprika – are delivered as complimentary nibbles.

In synch with the open-air setting and relaxed beach vibes, we think recipes from the grill are a good choice. Our helpful server, Nana, highly recommends the Thai Wagyu Short Ribs (THB 1050++). I’m recently back from Chiang Mai, where the local beef tenderloin left me enamoured, so I’m excited to meet Thai beef once again on this menu. The short ribs have been slow-cooked until fall-apart tender and come in their own jus with local herbs. They’re rich and fatty, and the house-pickled jalapeño slices through the fat, a consummate companion.

The Red Coral Fish (THB 800++), locally caught, is given the Robatayaki treatment and grilled over hot charcoal until just cooked through and the skin is deliciously crisp. Fermented organic corn and aji huacatay (a Peruvian black mint sauce) add bursts of colour and freshness to the plate.

Our veg sides are just as tasty as our proteins. Grilled Local Eggplant (THB 250++) sees tender slices of aubergine lightly coated with a white miso glaze and sided with mixed greens and lemon dressing. Yum! Smoked Beet (THB 295++) adds more colour to our table, and the house-grown herbs and cottage cheese elevate and contrast the earthy flavours of the beet.

To conclude, hubby indulges in Blueberry Cheesecake (THB 220++). It’s an impeccable cube of fluffy, sweet, baked cheese covered in a crisp white chocolate shell and topped with a mound of blueberries. It’s just the right size to finish on a sweet note without tipping us over the edge of immoderation.
