Denmark Farmhouse Cheese & Duckett’s Mill Wines: A delicious double act in Denmark where small-batch wines and handcrafted cheeses share the spotlight in a truly flavour-forward performance.

Wine without cheese is like a verse without rhythm. At Duckett’s Hill Winery & Denmark Farmhouse Cheese, two artisans—one raising vines, the other handcrafting curds—have composed a delicious duet. Here, wine and cheese aren’t just neighbours: they’re soulmates.
Duckett’s Hill Winery & Denmark Farmhouse Cheese
In the picturesque Scotsdale Valley, just a short drive from Denmark in Western Australia’s Great Southern region, Duckett’s Hill Winery and Denmark Farmhouse Cheese are a gourmet match made in heaven. On this family-run property, the art of winemaking and the craft of cheese meet with unpretentious ease, producing perfectly paired plates and palate-pleasing pickings. Forget background notes—here, cheese grabs wine by the tastebuds and shows it a seriously good time.

Duckett’s Hill Winery & Denmark Farmhouse Cheese
Duckett’s Hill traces its roots to 1996 when Ross and Dallas Lewis transformed a cattle farm into a modest vineyard. By 2004, the first vines went in: Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Today, the estate covers around 4.7 hectares, including plantings of Chardonnay, Semillon–Sauvignon Blanc blends and Ruby Cabernet. Since 2018, owners Annette and Laurie Stock, their son, cheesemaker Jack, and winemaker James Kellie, have elevated the estate’s winemaking and hospitality offerings.
Visitors are greeted by a welcoming cellar door and café. It’s breezy and unfussy, with timber tables inside and picnic-style seating under colourful umbrellas. Here, a morning tea could easily drift into a long lunch, and an even longer lazy afternoon. The wines are approachable, the cheese selection is formidable, and the cake display is downright drool-worthy.

Handcrafted: From Farm to Table
Sharing the site with the winery and café is Denmark Farmhouse Cheese, home to an eclectic range of more than 35 varieties—from creamy bries and sharp cheddars to washed rind wonders and delicate blues. Produced in small batches using traditional techniques, these cheeses are a testament to artisanal craftsmanship. Local milk is transformed into inventive expressions of the classics, like chilli-garlic Havarti or velvety blue.
A cheese board is the best way to explore the range in one indulgent sitting—ideally paired with a glass of Duckett’s Mill Riesling or Chardonnay, and made even better by those rolling green views. Once you’ve tasted your fill, pick up a few favourites to take away. With many of Denmark’s stays set up for self-catering, this is the perfect place to stock up and savour the region’s farm-fresh abundance at your own pace.
