Best Brunch Deal in Kuala Lumpur, La Bodega

Free-flowing brunches in KL can be an extravagant affair, so if you’re looking for a more casual way to hang out with friends on a Sunday afternoon, you might like La Bodega’s new Sunday offering, “El Corazon – The Heart of Wine,” at their BSC outlet. For 60++ RM per person, it is the most modestly priced option in town, not to mention the longest, starting at 12:00 and running until 4:00 pm.

With extensive outdoor seating, La Bodega BSC offers its guests a garden setting with plenty of natural light, protected from sun and rain by overhead skylights. Guests are treated to views of the chef at a giant paellera, sautéing all the seafood goodness that will become part of your meal.

“The Heart of Wine” features a colorful variety of cocktails made with the Spanish sherry Tio Pepe. “Citrus Cup” adds Drambuie to the wine with plenty of orange juice and fresh fruit for a sweeter version of mimosa. “Garden Sprite” is similarly fruity, flavored with lychee liqueur and strawberry puree. The “Oceanic” arrives in a tall glass, electric blue with the flavors of orange and blue curacao. More unusual are the “Toffee Apple”, less sweet and scented with fresh rosemary, and the “Salmon Roll”, served martini-style with vermouth and a toothpick of raw salmon.

For the simpler palate, La Bodega also offers two cocktails made with Aperol, an Italian aperitif, the Aperol Soda and the Aperol Sour. And for those who prefer the classic stand-by for Spanish brunches, Cava is on offer as well.

Paired with the drinks you’ll find an assortment of canapes off La Bodega’s menu. The aromatic Paella Valenciana Mixta is flanked by tender fried calamari and juicy pinchos morunos, both served with garlic aioli. To round off the plate, the crispy exterior of codfish croquettes cracks open to melt creamily on the tongue.

At the finish, La Bodega delivers a plate of sweet bites. Two macarons, one chocolate and one strawberry, sit alongside a rich chocolate brownie and some berries. A spoon-sized serving of caramel-crusted Creme Catalana satisfies the Spanish sweet spot in all of us.

Paella-purists will be happy to know that the assortment of canapes and cocktails can be replaced by a plate of Paella Valenciana Mixta and a refreshing glass of sangria for the unbelieveable price of only RM15.
