Guest writer, Caning Alexis, tells of his recent full cream find in Publika, Solaris Dutamas…

Mz. Nina was recommended by a friend as a reasonably priced cafe in Publika selling home made breads and ice creams. A Victorian air is created with the use of large red wine arm chairs, artificial floral bouquets and three tiered afternoon tea trays. Small cafe type tables and chairs, and indoor and outdoor seating accommodate a variety of preferences. Potted plants line the frontage giving a green break between the quiet road and shop entrance.
A local chef, formerly from the Berjaya Hotel, cooks contemporary Asian cuisine with a European feel, but Mz. Nina is known principally for its desserts and baked goods. Presentation of food is simple and stylish with the use of fresh herbs providing a colourful balance. Starting with the Cheese Twist, I happily found an evenness of sweet and salty, crunchy and fluffy soft. The Prawn and Mango salad used fresh ingredients and a decorative arrangement. The Rumble Chicken was tender and tasty, but the passionfruit sauce was a highlight -passionfruit, cream, honey and sweet chili sauteed together to form a fruity enhancement with a splash of spice. My favourite desserts were the thick, dense and creamy cheesecake and the buttery smooth vanilla ice cream. I soon found out that the secret to this pleasure is that all desserts are made by Mz. Nina with no preservatives and no reductions in cream. That is, FULL cream ahead!
With news that the menu is up for a revamping, a bargain Buffet Breakfast for only RM8.90++  and weekend High Teas from 3 – 6pm for RM16.80++ (a cost effective way to sample some of the desserts they are known for) a second visit is presenting as a likely occurrence.
Reason to visit:  FULL cream ice cream and cakes that will bring you back to your childhood
