G Hotel is a happening spot. Centred on the busy food street of Gurney drive, guests are foot steps away to popular stalls, seafood and local dishes. For those with money burning their pocket, Gurney Plaza and a number of neighbouring shopping malls will happily alleviate you. Despite the broad mud flats bordering the shore caused by development further north, if you lift your gaze to the middle distance the smooth ocean offers calm and peace. As the sun lowers, the breeze cools the air making the boulevard a pleasant place for an evening stroll or an early morning run. Known primarily as a business stay with its facilities and shuttle buses running daily to industrial sites, the hotel is also popular amongst regional tourists making Penang a quick foodie and shoppie getaway.
The grand modern lobby oozes hip with designer furniture, high reaching ceilings and contemporary lighting. Upon check in we were cooled with yam and strawberry ice cream as a welcome treat. Staff escorted us and our bags to our room and gave a brief friendly tour letting us know that they could be reached at the touch of a button. All 311 rooms feature uncomplicated design giving a feeling of spaciousness and simplicity. Splashes of colour dot the walls in the form of artworks and sleek long lined furniture provides comfort and style. A unique benefit is a complimentary non-alcoholic mini bar replenished daily. Refillable toiletry products are a greener and thoughtful addition too. Rooms with coastal facing windows are my pick. 
A well equipped gym with cardio and resistance machines by Technogym, and free standing weights, overlooks the coast on one side and the pool to the other. A small aerobics room offers yoga and stretching mats and a chilled space to cool down. The infinity pool lined with modern sun chairs and umbrellas, a bubbly jacuzzi and a kids pool is large and green. The pool area allows for relaxation but is also long enough to do laps. By 8am there were six of us getting our morning exercise in this form. A spa and hair salon add further pampering facilities. A unique service to G Hotel is that of mountain bikes for exploring Penang. Leave your car in the free car park and avoid traffic taking off on two wheels.
Food and beverage outlets cater for all tastes from casual bar snacks and sport screens to cafe corners to fine dining restaurants. G Cafe supplies all day feasting with buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sesame and Soy restaurants provide fine dining and casual but elegant options respectively. Pastry Chef Tan is famous for her cheesecakes and Saturday night Chocolate Buffet. Canny clients converge to the Lobby Lounge at 8pm clearing out the sweet counter which offers 50% discount at this time. The G Pool Bar provides light snacks and drinks. The high ceilinged lounge area with its elongated bar is a jazzy meeting place for a cocktail and G Spot is a chic bar for visiting after dark with live music most nights. Claiming the longest happy hours on the island, guests can move from the Lobby Lounge to the G Spot taking advantage of one-for-one house pours and beers from 4pm – 11pm.

This is where my husband's company puts all their potential expats on their exploratory trips. It does a good job of selling Penang life.
I noticed many expats in the hotel. They have shuttle buses transporting them daily out the industrial areas.

oooh, i had drinks at the hotel lobby lounge here with a friend once, a few years ago while visiting penang. i'd have liked to try out their sesame restaurant, but didn't get a chance 😀
