After a year’s break, the Malaysian International Gastronomy Festival 2018 (MIGF) returns.

Opening with a bang, the who’s who of KL’s culinary scene attended a VIP preview of the month-long festivities. A Theatre of Cuisines featured all 27 participating restaurants offering bite-sized portions of some of the recipes from their special menus. All teams put on a vibrant display with some of our personal favourites being found at Nadodi, Gen, Marini’s, Nero Nero, Kikubari and DC Restaurant.

It was followed up with a weekend of tasting by the public at Taste MIGF where guests could purchase Taste Coupons to sample delights from the festival menus. Alongside the show-stopping Theatre of Cuisine, visitors were also welcomed to check out the Epicure International Gourmet Village, participate in cooking classes and wine appreciation sessions, as well as take a look at the LuxuryPlus Showcase – an exhibition of premium products to live the ultimate luxurious lifestyle.

If the weekend launch is anything to go by, diners are in for some real treats for the rest of the month. Running from the 1st to the 30th of September, some of Malaysia’s top restaurants are serving special festival menus, often at reduced prices compared to their regular menu or with additional inclusions for the entire month.

From the more established restaurants such as Lai Po Heen and Marini’s to newcomers such as Drop Exchange and big players like Genting with their four entries, the participants come from diverse backgrounds. And just as the size of the restaurants vary, so do their cuisines. From European to Malaysian, traditional to molecular, café to the finest of dining experiences, there is something to expand your field of vision as to what the KL food scene can offer.

I wish we could have something like this in London.
But change it to Malaysian “Local” Gastronomy Festival 🙂
