It is not often that a property provides such a smorgasbord of treatment and pampering options as does Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort. If you should wish to spend time relaxing or glamorising, the facilities here have everything you could possibly want, right at hand. Here we find a spa that fills the senses, an aesthetic clinic complete with medical doctors and a salon that sends us off in style. All three seamlessly encapsulate the resort’s themes of space and flowing water, while delivering service with professionalism and that distinctive Balinese sense of care.
Our final day at this delightful resort is an extravaganza of pamperdom, massages, facials, blow dries and manicures and pedicures. What more could two ladies wish for?
Balinese Massage at the Gazebo by SoSpa Sofitel Bali
Beachside, in the gardens, under the shady trees, are some splendid Indonesian daybeds. This is the Gazebo. There is a range of signature treatments on offer. We experience the gentle rhythmic strokes of Balinese massage (IDR 600,000 ++) on our morning visit. Influenced by Thai, Chinese and Indian healing practices, the treatment combines reflexology, massage and lymphatic drainage to both relax and stimulate the flow of energy through the body. Soothed by the soft sea breeze, we quickly drift away to the rhythm of clever fingers untwisting our travel knots and worldly stresses. If you are feeling shy, or want more shade, wooden shutters can drop down to give you full cabana privacy.
As well as enjoying beachfront relaxation, Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort guests can also take massage in their room, in a poolside sanctuary or within the enveloping walls of SoSpa. Wherever you take your massage, it is definitely a necessary experience. Bali without massage is unthinkable.
Facial at CellScience Solitaire
Cascading water and hanging bells guide us towards another world, one of serenity. Just one step up from SoSpa, CellScience Solitaire, the premium aesthetic clinic in Indonesia, has partnered with Sofitel Bali to create this exclusive facility. It’s the only one of its kind in Bali. Body sculpting, facials, and peels are performed by qualified nurses while procedures such as fillers and thread-lifting are provided through consultation with a doctor.
We are here to experience the CIS – SK Corrective (IDR 850,000+), a rejuvenating anti-ageing facial together with an oxygen infusion (IDR 500,000 ++) to boost the skin. We are loving the calm ambience of the centre. Soft whites, creams and taupes avoid an overtly clinical feel. The use of natural motifs in the design simply soothing.
The extensive clinic hosts an array of treatment rooms. We are in a conjoined suite with sliding doors, each with our separate area, but nonetheless together, perfect for couples and very good friends. The gentle therapists talk us through the procedures; cleanse, scrub, steam extract, serum with peptides, soothing mask. All are intended to smooth out skin texture and those sneaky ‘fine lines’. Personally, I find facials more relaxing than massages, so I soon drift off in the rhythm of the treatment, low light and cosy bed. I come to, just in time to experience blasts of pure oxygen across my face, leaving me refreshed, revitalised and rejuvenated.
Wash, Blow and Glow at The Shampoo Lounge (TSL)
The Shampoo Lounge, also incorporating Bali Barber, is Bali’s best known and most popular high-end salon brand. At this exclusive outlet housed in Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort, right next door to the SoSpa by Sofitel Bali, more than a touch of Hollywood glamour exudes from the two-story setting. With polished wooden pillars and an oversized contemporary chandelier complementing the stone walls and floors. As well as in-salon treatments, you can experience a full restyling, or if readying for a special event, even book a stylist to your room. We looked zen-sational after our signature ‘Wash, Blow and Glow’ (IDR 382,000++), and left feeling we had just had a little ‘movie star’ experience.
Manicure and Pedicure at SoSpa Bali
The sombre doors of SoSpa give no clue to the dramatic environment that lies within. A towering space on the verge of being an art installation, such is the splendour of the carvings, tapestries and metallic sculptures which form the basis of the design. Private single and couples’ treatment suites are sumptuously presented with attached en-suite and vanity area.
Lounging beside the tranquillity pool for pampering is a fine way to spend a cloudy or over-sticky afternoon in Bali. We have been blessed with clear blue skies and perfect temperatures, but the temptation still proves too much for us to miss. Propped up on cushions, enjoying a tandem mani-pedi (IDR 1350,000 ++), at Sofitel Spa is a delightful treat. One smiling therapist carefully exfoliates and cares for my feet, before turning my toes a deep shade of turquoise, perfect for a beachfront vacation. The other trims and treats my nails before giving a soothing hand and arm massage that leaves me blissed out. Revived by a delectable ginger honey tea, we reluctantly say goodbye to this caring cocoon.
It has literally been top to toe treatments for us today. In typical French fashion, it seems Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort, takes beauty very seriously. And the wonderful Balinese therapists at SoSpa provide such holistic soothing care, always with the sweetest of smiles to brighten your day.
