One of the signature experiences at the Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Resort is an evening beach-side at Toya Beach Bar & Grill. Guests watch the moon come up as freshly caught seafood is grilled to order and served up with panache. The location is soothing. The presentation is inviting. And, the diverse taste sensations are very welcome.
Toya Beach Bar & Grill Balinese Seafood Barbecue
Chefs grill an assortment of fresh seafood on a barbecue in the sand metres from tables at Toya Beach Bar & Grill. A platter of fish, crustaceans and shellfish are served alongside plentiful steamed rice (red rice is available for a boost of nutrition) and completed with a plate of fresh fruit. The beauty is in the simplicity of preparation and quality of ingredients.
We begin with a tumble of clams, dabbled with light chilli. They nestle beside long, just-charred prawns, and nudge into marinated tempeh. This is mainly finger food for sure. A lemongrass skewer provides a delightful flavour to the fish patty it is hosting and tender chicken falls apart on touching before being dipped into a waiting peanut sauce. Mmm Mmm.
This is what we have been waiting for all day and the wait is justified. I drizzle some of the light chilli and onion accompaniments onto a slice of luscious barramundi and allow the red rice to soak up the flavour. A take a bite of crunchy corn, then it is the star of the platter, the luscious lobster tail with a light chilli rub and a squeeze of lemon. I need nothing more. Totally satisfied.
Our seafood comes with a range of traditional accompaniments, served holistically in tiny handmade topical leaf bowls. The whole effect is charming, and not to be missed. Be sure to book ahead to enjoy these Balinese flavours as the sea breeze cools your skin. The meal is concluded with a fresh tropical fruit platter.
The Balinese Seafood Barbecue (from IDR 399,000++) is served every evening from 6 pm to 9:30 pm at Toya Beach Bar & Grill.
