Zest Miri – Buffet Dinner
Monica Tindall
Miri Marriot Resort & Spa’s all-day-dining restaurant offers an evening buffet that is popular with locals because of its generous servings of fresh seafood in all its forms. Available nightly from 6 pm, reservations are recommended, particularly on busy weekends.
There are numerous buffet stations supported by live cooking stations, which prove to be the hottest, most-ordered picks of the night.
Fresh Seafood Buffet Miri Marriott Resort & Spa
Sure there is a whole display of starters and salads but wise buffet goers head straight for the seafood. Shellfish, prawns and crustaceans are self-selected and then cooked hot to order. I enjoy mine with a chilli garlic sauce, while hubby appreciates the freshness of the sea with a simple seasoning of salt and pepper.
Appetizers
Once the seafood quota is filled, there are plenty of salads to balance out the protein. I take pleasure in a salad of cashews, corn and beans and a lightly dressed potato salad. There’s also plenty of sushi to fill the plate and a variety of leaves and veggies to make your own salad mix.
Hot Items
The seafood theme continues with hot items on the buffet with baked fish, seafood stew and a variety of other forms of precooked seafood all ready for the taking. I relish the fish stew with its rich tomato sauce and already-peeled creatures of the sea. Hubby finds both lamb and duck to his liking and we have multiple helpings of the rainbow rice to soak up the flavourful sauces.
Soup
To ensure no pocket is left unfilled a number of soups (tom yum, laksa and sweet corn, the night we dine) are satisfying broths. The tom yum is sharp and spicy while the corn is sweet and comforting. Warm bread rolls make excellent companions.
Repeat Orders
Loving my veggies, I return to the stir-fry station and fill my plate with goods from the garden. Carrot, broccoli, onion, cauliflower, bitter gourd, mushrooms, ladyfingers, onions and bok choy sport the char of the wok and are livened with a good dose of chilli. Hubby scoops up repeat serves of the lamb and declares its worth.
Dessert Buffet at Zest Miri
To end, a beautiful arrangement of desserts takes centre-stage but the ais kacang is a local sweet that works perfectly with the tropical weather. Shaved ice is topped with your choice of condiments such as corn, beans, coconut and peanuts. If your sweet tooth still has a craving, try a slice of one of many stunning cakes with graceful adornments.
