Ready-to-heat Meals, Troika Sky Dining
Monica Tindall
Troika Sky Dining offers a twist on traditional takeaway with their ready-to-heat meals that make the best of both worlds – delivery and cooking at home. The work of shopping, preparation and cleaning is done for you, but you still get to enjoy a hot meal that tastes home-made (not half-cold delivery).
Three ready-to-heat meals are currently available from Troika Sky Dining: Wagyu Tomahawk, Black Angus Pure Beef Tenderloin and Saltbush Rack of Lamb. Each comes with sides and a suggested wine pairing that can be conveniently ordered at the same time. The meals are great anytime but could be especially nice to woo your Valentine or for a date night at home.
Ready-to-heat meals – Saltbush Rack of Lamb
We try the Saltbush Rack of Lamb (RM 210, 500g) paired with a bottle of 2018 Can Sumoi, Sumoll Garnatxa from Penedes, Spain (RM 240).
The box arrives with all dishes in containers ready to put directly in the oven or saucepan, or kept in the refrigerator for three days. A comprehensive set of instructions are included. If delaying the meal, it’s recommended to take the lamb rack out of the fridge about an hour before heating. I prepared our ready-to-heat meal as soon as it arrived. All-in it took me about half an hour from start to finish to have the meal plated and ready to serve.
The lamb has been prepared in a chorizo marinade and takes 15 to 25 minutes to cook, depending on your desired doneness. The lamb has quite a clean taste thanks to a diet of saltbush from the Aussie outback. With meat that is particularly juicy and tender, it is ideal for roasting. It’s accompanied by plentiful rosemary jus, which is just fabulous. So good, in fact, that we keep the excess and use it simply poured over roasted potatoes the following day.
Sides of ratatouille and baked semolina gnocchi are just as easily prepared as the lamb – just pop them in the oven. Both are delicious, but that gnocchi was decadent – we could have eaten an entire tray each. My hips are grateful that they only sent one as there was no self-control spooning up every last drop. The guide for reheating times the meal so that the lamb has time to rest while the veggies are finished off, and all is ready for plating at the same time. There are even some chef tips included for slicing the meat.
Can Sumoi, Sumoll Garnatxa, 2018, Penedès, Spain
Of course, we opted for the wine mate. A new project between Pepe Raventós (22nd generation wine producer!) and Francesc Escala see the man known for magnificent sparkling wines now producing still wine. Organically grown and produced, the wines have minimal intervention with no additives, stabilization or filtration. This particular red, Can Sumoi, Sumoll Garnatxa, 2018, Penedès, is a 50-50 blend of Sumoll and Garnacha. It’s young with a pink rim and lovely aromas of wild fruit and herbs. I find it vibrant and lively in the palate, of medium body and a fine mate for the lamb.
Ready-to-heat Meals from Troika – Review
This was a fun experience. I had no labour in shopping or preparation and minimal cleaning, yet still had the feeling of achievement from being hands-on. The wine pairing was spot on; I highly recommend getting the complete package.

The Saltbush Lamb Rack has my vote with the most enticing sides! Very filling for the extreme cold temperatures we are experiencing here in Chicago.
Convenient meals while staying at home, so good!!!
That’s convenient! The lamb rack looks good and I’m sure it’s a wonderful pairing with the wine! 😀
