I’ve never dined in Nosh & Co, KL in person. It’s another kitchen I’m sadly trying for the first time via delivery because of restaurant restrictions. Those of you who’ve been out and about might know the area as it’s near where Omakase + Appreciate used to be. Formerly known as Nosh, Tipple & Brew, it is undergoing a rebranding.

I’m always happy to see a well-balanced menu, especially when ordering for more than myself. Nosh & Co KL’s delivery list is just that, offering sufficient variety for every family member to find something they might enjoy. It has plenty of light, healthy and meat-free options and heavier dishes with both Western and Asian flavours.

Do note that the restaurant, bar and café is opened Monday to Friday. I gather to serve the office crowd in the area. So, think weekday meals when ordering.

Salads & Soups

From the salad and soups section, I’m grateful to find several meat-free items with the Superfood Salad (RM 28) and Chunky Mushroom Soup (RM 22). The salad is a vibrant combo of mesclun leaves, shaved red radish, beetroot slices, rocket and baby spinach. Pine nuts, cashews, and Parmesan cheese are tossed through, providing protein to keep the stomach satiated. The house-made dressing is super too. The soup is a good recommendation made with a variety of fungi, blended until fine but still with enough texture to note that these are real mushrooms thickening the soup. It’s well seasoned; another good choice.

Mains

Grilled Norwegian Salmon (RM 35) is a healthy and tasty selection from the mains menu at Nosh & Co KL. The chunky fillet is cooked through yet remains moist in the middle. Fluffy couscous and asparagus make excellent sides, and the tomato caper sauce is superbly tasty.

Pizza

While I didn’t expect to like the Nasi Lemak Pizza (RM 23), I couldn’t resist ordering it for its uniqueness. A thin base holds anchovies, cucumber, peanuts, egg, nasi lemak sambal and mozzarella. It’s an eye-catching and interesting combo.

Pasta

Pumpkin Gnocchi (RM 23) is right up my alley. The homemade pasta is sauteed together with spinach, mushrooms, sage and a rich tomato sauce. The sauce has a good tang to it thanks to whopping amounts of garlic, and the veg plump up the dish into a satisfying one-bowl meal.

Café Favourites

I had my eye on the Kerabu Fried Rice (RM 19), but the Nosh team insisted we also try the Nosh Fried Rice (RM 19), hence two rice dishes today. The former is ideal for my tastebuds with its abundance of chopped herbs, finely diced veg and fresh, tangy flavours. Anchovies, long beans, cabbage, onions, cucumber, lime leaf, chillies and ginger flower make it a complete meal topped off with a fried egg. Keropok (deep-fried crackers) provide some crunch on the side for both recipes. The Nosh signature is a blaze of flavours mainly thanks to pungent petai beans and prawn sambal paste. In this dish, the egg is mixed in rather than sitting on top, and a tasty chicken satay skewer and acar acar (lightly pickled veg) lay aside the mound of rice.

The drinks menu at Nosh & Co KL is a colourful collection of freshly squeezed juices, house-made sodas and coffee. We appreciate the healthy blends found in the Easy Green (RM 15) and Beet Booster (RM 15) juices. Apple, cucumber, spinach and celery make up the green juice, while pear, beetroot and carrot compose the latter.

Local coffee brand, Degayo, provides a reliable base for caffeinated beverages. While I’d like to try a hot coffee, I’m afraid it wouldn’t travel so well, so instead, opt for an Iced Cappuccino (RM 11). A fun option is found in the Rose Latte (RM 10.90), which has been flavoured with syrup – one for the sweet tooth.

There’s also a complete bar collection, and we pick a pinot noir from the wine list.

The Château d’Antugnac La Closerie des Lys Pinot Noir 2016 is grown in the high-altitude hills of Limoux, Languedoc, Sud de France. It’s a bright, fresh wine with loads of berries on the nose and a smooth, mildly savoury palate. High in acidity, it does well with food, especially our salmon dish and mushroom sauce on the gnocchi.
