Rock Spa, Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast
Monica Tindall
Tucked away below ground level of the Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast is a sanctuary of calm, far removed from the energetic happenings above. While guests visit the hotel for the spirited vibe, action-packed water park adventures, and a dynamic music experience, Rock Spa provides an opportunity to take a break from the buzz and recharge batteries.
Entering the oasis, we’re warmly greeted and invited to sit in the lounge. The treatment menu is presented, and each therapy is explained before we move into the changing facilities. Locker rooms overlook a water feature and greenery. It’s here where we leave our belongings (and harried daily agendas) and change into disposable underwear, a robe and slippers.
Rock Spa, Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast
Rock Spa at Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast offers five treatment rooms, a salon for manicures and pedicures, and a relaxation lounge. We’re taking a couple’s package and experiencing it in a room deep-sea green in colour, accented with fresh floral arrangements and bordered by glass doors looking onto tropical foliage.
Massage, body treatments and facials are the highlights of the menu, with several packages bundling various options together. Today we’ve signed up for the Pink Rock ‘N’ Roll (RM 800+ per couple, 2.5 hours) designed for Pinktober, where 10% of proceeds goes to fund cancer research and awareness. Although this particular promotion ends October 31, the base menu is solid, and various campaigns unfold over the year.
Pink Rock ‘N’ Roll
The Pink Rock ‘N’ Roll package consists of scrub, massage and facial. After a foot soak, the session commences with the pink Himalayan salt body scrub. Generally, I’m not a fan of scrubs as I find them sticky and don’t like the cooled wet mess stuck to parts of my skin while waiting for the rest of the body to be covered. However, this is not the case at Rock Spa. The use of a dry scrub does away with the goo and keeps the temperature constant. Once regarded as “White Gold,” pink Himalayan salt has a high mineral content, and its mildly abrasive nature is said to improve blood circulation. It’s probably not a good choice for sunburned or super sensitive skin, but it leaves ours baby skin smooth.
After a rinse off in the shower, we return to the massage bed for a full body massage. Swedish in style, our therapists use long deep strokes, mainly utilizing thumbs, heels of their hands and knuckles to reach deep into our tight muscles. Ros and Dayang, our therapists, have a confident, steady technique. Bolsters are placed under knees when supine and under ankles when prone, taking pressure off the lower back. Our comfort levels (temperature, pressure, music volume) are regularly monitored and adjusted as needed. Working their way from back to front, shoulders to toes and back up to the head, this section concludes with an Indian head massage focusing on pressure points on the scalp. It’s wonderfully relaxing and energizing at the same time and leaves us lulled into a state of calm, ready for the final component of the Pink Rock ‘N’ Roll.
A mini facial – cleanse, exfoliation, mask, moisturizer and sunscreen – results in soft, nourished skin and a feeling that every part of our bodies has been given the complete rock star treatment.
Gently brought back to awareness, we move to the relaxation lounge, luxuriating in our final moments at Rock Spa with warm ginger tea.

That’s one lovely place. Ha! “disposable underwear” – therein lies the problem, they never had my size. LOL!!! The Pink Rock ‘N’ Roll package sounds good.
Ha ha. Disposable undies are the not the most attractive item of clothing around.
What a relaxing place to be. Given that I have never been pampered in such a way, I would probably be quite uncomfortable as a first timer. Then I’d wonder why I never made the jump.
Very true. Massage is addictive. We certainly felt its absence over the past two years under various lockdowns.
