The Super Ramen Desa ParkCity team would describe themselves as fun, funky, and bold. Their menu of modern Japanese cuisine highlights this spirit to the utmost, delivering both scrumptious and heartwarming dishes.

Super Ramen’s newest branch in Desa ParkCity has only been open for four months but is evidently bound to garner frequent patronage in the future as one visit is not enough to explore all the compelling options on the menu, housing everything from pork chop ramen to mala gyoza. Much like the four-year-old Sri Petaling branch, this restaurant is the perfect place for lunch or dinner, decorated with familiar Japanese fixtures – a particular highlight being the lanterns on the ceiling, which give the interior a calming luminescence.

Appetisers

The Japanese Gyoza (RM 9.90) is a classic dish done well. Served warm, the dumplings have a delightfully crispy outside, giving way to a flavoursome filling that pairs wonderfully with the vinegar and ginger dipping sauce. It’s a comforting start to a great meal.

Mains

The broth at Super Ramen Desa ParkCity simmers for ten hours before it is served, richly coating the taste buds with its robust flavour. The noodles are purposefully made to be thicker than usual ramen, giving more of a chewy mouthful when eaten.

We were impressed by the King of Pork Chop Ramen (RM 37.90), which, true to its name, contained an entire pork chop within the steaming broth. The visual wow factor is matched by the dish’s taste, with the pork chop being expertly marinated and tender, synergising well with the rich broth. The team at Super Ramen Desa ParkCity source their pork locally, ensuring freshness and giving a satisfyingly meaty bite. New variations of the King of Pork Chop Ramen are already in the works, with both a soy sauce and gochujang broth set to launch in the near future as a fusion of flavours from Malaysia and Asia to accompany traditional Japanese preparation methods.

The Kumamoto Charsyu Ramen (RM 25.90) got its name from a satisfied Japanese guest who found that the taste reminded him of his hometown in Kumamoto, Japan. This sense of hominess is contained in the rich broth, and the tender, flavourful sous vide sakura pork shoulder. Inspired by a fusion of Asian flavours, the chef decided to pay homage to the restaurant’s home in Malaysia by incorporating Malaysian-Chinese methods in marinating the charsyu, giving it a touch of smoky, savoury-sweet boldness.

For fans of Japanese rice bowls, the Chicken Teriyaki Don (RM 25.90) is the perfect way to satisfy that craving. The fluffiness of the Japanese short-grain rice pairs wonderfully with the teriyaki, giving it a nice sweetness. We particularly enjoyed the rich texture that the ajitsuke tamago (marinated Japanese egg) provided the dish, which also had a generous portion of fresh greens, making it a well-balanced meal.

Drinks at Super Ramen Desa ParkCity

A handful of cocktails and refreshments have been curated to match well with the cuisine. Haru Kiku (RM 25.90) is one of the restaurant’s specialty cocktails, containing chrysanthemum-infused umeshu (plum) sake. Umeshu sake was chosen for its acidity and slight salty umami flavour to counterbalance the sweet fragrance of the chrysanthemum, resulting in a cooling cocktail completed with gorgeous flower garnishes.

The Natsu Mango (RM 25.90) is another inviting cocktail, combining mango yuzu and umeshu sake. Like the Haru Kiku, the acidity and sweetness of the cocktail complement the heavy ramen dishes perfectly, underscoring their hearty richness.

As a non-alcoholic option, we loved the Yuzu Passionfruit (RM 13.90), which was adequately sweet and provided a tangy freshness alongside our filling meal.

Dessert

From the dessert menu, we sampled the Lucky Kame (RM 12.90), containing intricately detailed fish crafted from herbal tortoise jelly and osmanthus honey jelly swimming in a small pool of lychee osmanthus syrup and garnished with goji berries. The fish, resembling the lucky Asian symbol of abundance, was inspired by the chef’s childhood favourite dessert and gave a refreshingly light end to the meal with a balance of slight bitterness and subtle sweetness from the differently flavoured jellies, making it the perfect palate cleanser.

  1. Not into ramen, prefer our own local noodles. They’ve just opened a new ramen place here yesterday…and a new sushi place today. Will go and try both soonest.
