Veranda Resort Phuket – Autograph Collection
Monica Tindall
It takes a certain confidence to open a resort in one of Thailand’s most visited destinations and not lean into the clichés. But Veranda Resort Phuket, Autograph Collection, pulls it off with charm and restraint. A landmark for the brand—it’s the first Autograph Collection property on the island and only the third in the country—it arrives not with a splash but a slow, rippling exhale.
And that tone holds throughout.

Verandah Resort Phuket Location
Set on the quiet southern tip of Phuket, Veranda Resort looks out over Ao Yon Bay from the Cape Panwa peninsula—far enough from the chaos of Patong to feel removed but close enough to Old Town (12km) to dip in for a culture fix or a strong local coffee. The airport is about an hour away, but the journey’s a pleasant one. By the time we arrive, we’ve left the traffic, touts and tuk-tuks firmly in the rear-view.
This corner of the island still feels like Phuket before the postcards—authentic, breezy, and unhurried. It’s where sunset seekers, solitude lovers and savvy locals quietly agree the best of the island lives.

Design
The architecture doesn’t shout. Instead, it flows—curves, soft edges, low profiles. There’s an intentional nod to Old Town Phuket in the façades and colour palette, yet the overall mood is unmistakably modern. Creamy neutrals are punctuated with cool coastal blues; locally woven textures balance clean, contemporary lines. It’s a space designed to exhale—so you can too. The entire resort manages to feel high-end without being uptight.

Verandah Resort Phuket Rooms
There are 159 rooms and villas in total, each gently wrapped around views of the ocean, pool, or lush gardens. Categories range from cosy deluxe rooms to beach-facing pool villas with enough space to fit a family (or two).
We check into an Oceanfront Pool Access Room, and within minutes, we’re waist-deep in the water, a glass of rosé in hand. The layout is thoughtful: direct pool access via sliding glass doors, a generous king bed, a daybed and a little dining nook. Nautical blue accents and sea-inspired art soften a calming aesthetic of white, stone and flax.
Switches are clearly labelled (small win, big joy), the tech is seamless, and the Nespresso machine is ready to work overtime. Dual showerheads and a deep soaking tub complete the water-loving picture. Bonus points for the high-pressure hot water—so often an overlooked luxury.
In a playful nod to beach life, there are straw hats, a roomy beach tote and flip-flops ready and waiting. It’s the kind of place where you could easily arrive with nothing but your swimmers and still be fine.

Food & Drink
The Parlour is the resort’s all-day dining space—bright, relaxed, and confidently international with a tilt toward local Thai produce. Mornings see an expansive breakfast buffet with tropical fruit, custom noodle bowls and made-to-order eggs alongside Western staples.
On the day of our arrival, we sample the chef’s recommended lunch menu, which impresses with restraint and clarity—clean, balanced dishes that let the ingredients speak for themselves. Keen to begin our weekend in the land of indulgence with at least a hint of virtue, we request a nutritious start. The kitchen delivers: house-cured salmon with garden-fresh greens, a velvety spinach soup with unexpected depth, and a pot-baked Norwegian salmon so fresh it might have swum in under its own steam.
We didn’t make it to the other venues on this stay, but a quick recce revealed promise: Bar Botan for sunset cocktails garnished with garden flair, a Beach Bar pop-up perfect for sandy feet and cold beers, and a Café Parlour offering espresso, iced matcha, and buttery pastries just when you need them most.

Facilities
If the rooms are built for quiet retreat, the public spaces invite you to unfurl. There are three pools—a lively family pool, a more serene ocean pool, and the showstopper: a beachfront infinity pool that appears to pour into the bay. Built-in sun loungers, shaded cabanas, and those circular conversation pods with pastel cushions create a mood that’s as photogenic as it is relaxing.
Wellness is thoughtfully woven into the resort’s DNA. The Let’s Relax Spa is a Thai mini-chain with a solid reputation for delivering quality treatments at reasonable prices. It’s tranquil, efficient and grounded in a blend of Thai, Swedish and aromatherapy techniques.
For the active, there’s a decently stocked gym with cardio machines, weight training gear, and a small space for floor work or yoga. The resort also offers a rotating schedule of daily activities—morning stretching, aqua aerobics, and beach volleyball, among them—for those who like a little structure with their sunshine. And for the curious, the concierge can arrange excursions to Phuket Town—a melting pot of history, food and art galleries well worth half a day.

Stay Like a Pro
Sunset: Aim for the beachside infinity pool or Bar Botan by 6:15 pm (ish), cocktail in hand. The sun performs a nightly disappearing act over Ao Yon Bay, lighting up the hills surrounding the bay. Alternatively, find a spot in the sand anywhere on the beach. If you’re in an Oceanfront Pool Access Room, you won’t even need to leave your patio to catch it.

Room Tip: If you’re the sort who likes to roll out of bed and into the water (figuratively, but also quite literally), spring for an Oceanfront Pool Access Room. It’s your own private shortcut to sun-dappled serenity.

Lights & Air Con: It always seems to take us a full 24 hours to master the mysteries of hotel lighting and air-con—often at the cost of a decent first night’s sleep (particularly tricky in these hormonal years, when uninterrupted rest is something of a unicorn). Good news: all the lights here are clearly labelled (hallelujah!). The Master switch by the entrance turns everything off—including the air-con—so save that one for when you’re leaving the room, not for lights-out. At bedtime, use the Master by the bed, which dims the room but keeps the cool air flowing. And if you’re sensitive to light, note that the balcony light stays on unless you manually switch it off—so be sure to do that, and draw those blissfully thick blackout curtains tight.
Breakfast: Head to The Parlour early for the best spread and the calmest seats. Indoors, the high tables with cushioned bench seats along the back wall are our pick—they’re slightly elevated, giving you uninterrupted views of the pool and bay. That said, if you’re up before 7:30 am, it’s cool enough to claim a spot outside, arguably the best seat in the house. Once you’ve finished grazing, bring your coffee down to the sunken lounges in the water just in front—it’s an unhurried, scenic start to the day.

Activities: Feel virtuous before the day dissolves into poolside inertia with morning stretching, aqua aerobics, or beach volleyball. There’s a daily schedule for those who like their holidays with just a hint of discipline.
Get a Deal: May to October is the rainy season, and you can get great deals on hotels if you’re willing to risk grey days. We travelled in early June and were blessed with overcast days but no rain.
Best Time for the Beach: Mornings are magic—before noon, the beach enjoys shade from the hotel, and the air is still pleasantly cool. The long stretch of beach is excellent for walking or running; it’s relatively flat and the sand is compact. Several recliners line the sand, and with the gentle hush of the waves, it’s an ideal spot to ease into the day. Come afternoon, the heat sends most guests elsewhere—so if you’re beach-bound, earlier is definitely better.
