A couple of years back we stayed at Padma Resort in Legian. At that time we were impressed with the extraordinary number of artworks intertwined with Balinese architecture. Not particularly taken by the beach and surrounding district of Legian, we found that the expansive landscaped gardens and obvious value for the arts a sanctuary that we just didn’t expect to find in the immediate district.
The brand new opening of Padma Resort in the central hill country of Ubud however, seems to perfectly befit the cultural celebration that is this resort. Nestled in 11 hectares of stunning nature, the property overlooks an untouched river valley and the bamboo forests of Payangan. With crisp cerulean skies, lush tropical greenery and the contented ease of the Balinese, you can’t help but breathe more profoundly here.
149 rooms are commissioned with artisan-crafted furnishings, custom-built lampshades and hand-carved wooden detailing. Locally woven fabrics in throw-overs, pillow covers and upholstery add aesthetic appeal.
All modern amenities such as DVD player, 48-inch television, complimentary Internet, electronic safe, and so on are all included. Private balconies and spa-inspired en-suites with dual sinks, free-standing bathtub, rain shower and spacious dressing area are welcomed luxuries. There’s even an espresso machine that is not Nescafé, which you know makes me happy.
Upgrade to a Club Room and the service is stepped up a notch. In-room check-in, welcome flower and fruit basket, choice of breakfast venues, non-alcoholic beverages throughout the day, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails are all included. The wine room, where evening cocktails are held, is a spectacular salute to the area. Folding windows open up to incredible scenery and it is all too easy to spend hours here sipping on cocktails and local wine, breathing in the fresh air and soaking up nature’s beauty. Discounts on the spa, and food and beverage outlets, as well as some laundry and mini-bar items are further benefits of the club.
The butler assignment is too good not to mention. 24-hour service gives guests a personal helper at the touch of a button. Want to make a spa booking? Contact your butler. Need help with the coffee machine? Contact your butler. Looking for a recommendation for what to do the following day? Contact your butler.
Facilities complement the beautiful scenery. Blending in with flourishing gardens and calming water features, The Spa incorporates Balinese healing techniques and Asian rituals with the latest advances in global wellness trends to compose a comprehensive menu of treatments.
The freshest of air inspires us to exercise outdoors and often. The 1.5km jogging track is a stimulating start or end to the day, and the infinity edged pool, which appears to drop over the valley’s rim, offers breathtaking views. Heated in the early and late hours, and left naturally cool during the day, the system keeps the waters always at the ideal temperature. Sun loungers, umbrellas and a sunken pool bar have their draw too.
Being a brand new property, the equipment in the fitness centre is nothing but state- of the art. Glass windows frame picture perfect greenery and glimmering water, ridding any desire for a screen. Steam and sauna facilities supplement the set up and personal training is available upon request for an additional charge. There’s too a list of daily activities including yoga, health and cultural classes that keep the day filled with activities for those who desire occupation.
