Maverick Loh Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur

Maverick Loh, Executive Assistant Manager, Sheraton KL

Maverick Loh

The Yum List talks with Maverick Loh about life in the hotel industry and his role at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur.

What do you do and how did you get into the industry?

I’m the executive assistant manager for Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur. I entered the industry because of my passion for meeting people.

Share with us an interesting story from behind the scenes.

I guess it’s the process leading up to, and the setup, prior to an exciting re-launch of a restaurant. We get to taste first hand all of the wonderful ingredients and food prepared by the chefs. Seeing crates of fresh oysters flown in from Japan, the boxes of king crab legs, it just blows you away. Of course, it’s fun being part of the amazing food shoot too.

What’s the best/ worst part of your job?

The best part: knowing that I have amazing people around me and seeing them grow.

The worst part: nothing really.

The perfect day off would be…

… sitting by the beach, with a bottle of beer and doing nothing.

A day in the life of a GM is…

…extremely exciting and rewarding

What do you do for fun?

I go out to explore the best cafes and unwind in the best bars.

What’s something you’d like guests to know about Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur?

Essence, our all-day-dining restaurant, is making a comeback in the food scene.

What’s your favourite food and beverage pairing?

A wagyu MB9+ 300g rib eye with a glass of Grange to be exact.

What’s your view on the hospitality industry in Kuala Lumpur?

I must say it is a challenging environment compared to Sydney (where I worked prior to moving here). Sydney does not have sufficient inventory in the market and in KL, it’s the exact opposite. However, I’m starting to see a turn of events coming upon the horizon.

What’s in store for you in the upcoming months?

It will be exciting times, as Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur will be going through phases of food and beverage relaunching bit by bit. Next up will be our signature restaurants.

Find out what Maverick Loh is talking about when he says that Essence is making a comeback here.
