Profhilo Malaysia

Monica Tindall

The world of aesthetics changes rapidly. The latest technology that’s the buzz in clinics in Malaysia is that of Profhilo. An injectable, it boosts skin laxity and proclaims impressive results. Dr Jessie at Kaiteki Skin Aesthetic Laser in SS2 is one of the first to use it in Kuala Lumpur, and I happily sign up to test it out.

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) used for treating skin laxity. The high concentrations of HA in Profhilo hydrate the skin and provide a subtle lift to sagging tissue. Producers claim that it is neither a filler nor a biorevitaliser but rather falls under the category of bioremodelling. As Profhilo lasts in the skin around 28 days, it stimulates collagen, elastin and stem cells through its slow release of hyaluronic acid, and hence, more youthful-looking skin.

Why use Profhilo?

Unlike previous products with a similar goal (some requiring up to 200 microinjections), Profhilo only needs five injection points on each side of the face. The product naturally spreads without the need for a canular or secondary injection. This reduces pain and also the risk of bruising. Because of its slow-release properties, it is also less likely to cause inflammation or allergic reaction.

Procedure

At Kaiteki, all sessions begin with an assessment and consultation with Dr Jessie. Once the treatment is explained, and all questions answered, the patient moves to the treatment room. Here the skin is cleansed by a nurse, who remains on hand while Dr Jessie makes the injections.

Not only are the most up-to-date injectables used but also tools to ensure the ultimate comfort of patients. Monica, Dr Jessie’s assistant, has a chilled ice roller for instant pain relief and reduction of swelling. She also has a fab vibrating tool that distracts by giving part of my face a mini-massage while a different part is being injected.

Does Profhilo hurt?

In short, yes. In long… numbing cream can be applied, which reduces the initial injection sting. As there are only five injections on each side, the procedure is brief. With other distractions such as ice, vibrations and Dr Jessie’s technique of squeezing the area as the needle goes in, it’s certainly bearable.

Aftercare

To minimize bruising and possible infection of the injection site, it’s best to avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, makeup, alcohol and coffee for a day following the procedure. It’s recommended to sleep face-up for the first night too. Actually, Dr Jessie suggests this is good practice in general as continually pressing your face into a pillow can lead to “pillow wrinkles.”

Immediately following the procedure, there are tiny raised bumps around the 10 injection sites on my face. I bruise extremely easily and do get a dark one just above my chin. It’s covered by the mask I wear in public anyway, so it doesn’t really bother me and fades over the week. If you do bruise easily, the consequences of the pandemic, such as wearing a mask and working from home, make it an ideal time to try something like Profhilo. However, I am told that most patients don’t bruise as much as I do.

Results

After one month, I do feel as though my skin has increased hydration. I also think that makeup is rolling on smoother. The recommended dose of Profhilo is two treatments, one month apart, followed by a maintenance session six months later. All of the before and after photos I’ve researched on the Internet show notable results after the first two treatments.

Profhilo works well in conjunction with other treatments such as Botox, lasers and fillers, but does not replace them. Each has a specific benefit, and these are best discussed with a doctor for realistic expectations.

    Hello Beautiful,
Thank you for sharing. You looked amazing!! I had sessions of Microneedling and Morpheus8 done on my face. I will find out about Profhilo procedure in Dallas. Out of all the procedures that you have done, which one do you think that showed the best results and recovering time?

What are the skin products/band names do you use as your daily routine? I want to know all, lol!

    Hugs,
    Sandy

    • I think it really takes a good combination of treatments for the best maintenance and a doctor that will look at your individual needs and not try to upsell the latest thing. For me, botox and a little bit of filler get the best immediate results and I find laser facials keep my skin looking fresh, even and reduce pores. I haven’t tried Morpheus8, I will look into it.
Ha ha – I am an open book. My daily routine is really simple – wash (with a natural soap), moisturize with Cetaphil and sunscreen (Avene).
