What do you do?
Make drinks and bad jokes.

How did you get into the industry?
During uni days, my local bar offered me a job as I was in there every day anyway (lol). I never really looked back after that.

Share with us a story from behind the scenes.
90% of the time, the person serving you is hungover… Be patient 😄

What’s a food memory from your childhood or travels that stands out?
My grandmother’s Mac and cheese – if you know, you know.

What’s the best/ worst part of your job?
The best part is everyday is a party.
Worst part is everyday is a party.

What’s your favourite food and beverage pairing?
Tequila and tacos.

What’s one of the funniest things you’ve seen behind the scenes?
Some of the funniest times happen when working with a close team that acts like a family. We fuss, we joke, we fight, but we love each other.

The perfect day off would be…
On a beach with no phone network.

A day in the life of a Mattman Joseph is…
Hectic! With every minute accounted for plus extra time to put out fires.

What do you do for fun?
Triathlons (badly).

What’s something you’d like guests to know about BAC?
Don’t worry about trying something new. If you try something and don’t like it, we will find you something you do like.

How has the pandemic changed your perspective or the way you operate?
It seems people are a lot less sociable now. However, the bar is the best place to make new friends…

What’s something you’d like people to know about being a bartender as a profession?
We don’t always want to drink. And a lot of the time, we don’t drink cocktails.

What’s your view on the bar scene in KL?
It’s growing and getting much better. Great bars are popping up everywhere, and guests are drinking better-quality drinks.

What practices do you currently implement or hope to implement to work towards social responsibility and sustainability in the future?
We try to minimise wastage and be as eco-friendly as possible.

What’s in store for you in the upcoming months?
Hopefully looking for a second outlet. Spreading the gospel of BAC.
