Spa and Beauty Malaysia
Monica Tindall
2021 was tough for the spa and beauty industry in Malaysia with many businesses unable to open for a good part of the year. Still, amongst the challenges, we managed to find several experiences worth shouting about. Here’s our list of highlights. (Click on the title links for more details.)
Spa and Beauty Malaysia – Highlights of 2021
The Tower Spa
The Tower Spa in Penang was an incredible find. Located on the 67th floor of Penang’s tallest building, it offers spectacular views of the island. The facilities of this luxury spa are premium and the therapists are highly skilled. Additionally, there’s a 30% discount for readers of The Yum List on My Love and Eternity Love packages, and 50% off ala carte treatments until the end of February 2022!
Spa and Beauty Malaysia – Blonde Studio
Blonde Studio offers a private setting quietly nestled underneath a residential block in Mont Kiara. Besides being experts in blonde colouring, with an advanced booking, you can get a full-service experience with expert cuts, colours and treatments in addition to makeup, nails and photography – perfect for pre-event prep. I love the rich, warm colours stylist Maryam gave me for the festive season.
Hydrolift Facial
One of the best maintenance medical-grade facials I’ve come across is the Hyrdolift Facial. It’s 90 minutes of absolute relaxation designed with carefully selected infusions and serums complementing high-tech equipment and expert manual technique.
Keratherapy
Just look at the before and after picture; there’s no need to say anything more. Keratherapy is a life-changer for unruly hair.
Face Gym & Carboxytherapy
Face Gym – a workout for your face and Carboxytherapy – an intensive facial leaving your skin glowing.
PicoSure Laser
PicoSure laser is a breakthrough in skin renewal treatment. Its unique 755nm wavelength is better able to absorb melanin than other Pico lasers that offer 1064nm. It is used to stimulate collagen, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars. Unwanted pigment such as freckles and sunspots are lightened with high and low-intensity energy.
Home Teeth Whitening
You’ve probably seen this several times now, but White Republic has the fastest, most effective, convenient and affordable teeth whitening system I’ve tried (and I’ve just about tried them all over the past 20 years). Their latest product is a wireless kit that has your teeth shades brighter in just 16 minutes a day for 7 – 10 days. You can get a significant discount using the code TheYumList here.
Eyeliner Tattoo
Permanent eyeliner or lash-enhancement tattoos mean that with one procedure you can do away with eyeliner for around five years!
Spa and Beauty Malaysia – Hair Highlights
In 20 years of colouring my hair, 2021 was the first that I tried highlights. I love the bright summery look they gave me and the appearance of natural body.
Recommended Aesthetic Medical Practioners in KL
While the spa and beauty treatments in Malaysia highlighted here were highly successful for me, when deciding on treatments for yourself, it’s important to consult with an expert to assess your individual needs. Of note, there are two aesthetic doctors in particular with whom I’ve had extremely positive experiences over not only 2021 but the past several years – Dr Jane Frances Kwan and Dr Jessie Lim. Both doctors run clinics that take time to personally assess your needs and listen to your desires. They explain treatments in language understandable to the layperson and give realistic expectations of what to expect. I never once felt pressured to purchase a package or sign up for a program. Each doctor worked on a results-driven strategy – treat, reassess, decide on next steps. If you are looking to get expert advice on beauty and skincare in 2022, I highly recommend both doctors. Dr Jane has a clinic in Tropicana and Dr Jessie takes consultations in both Bukit Jalil and The Hub in SS2.
Spa and Beauty Malaysia – Uroot
While spas remained closed, local company, Uroot, innovated to bring the spa to the home. The company produced natural bath products ideal for sensitive skin, so while you couldn’t visit their spa in person, you could get a little of them delivered to your home. Made with the essential oils of lavender, patchouli and cedarwood, the antibacterial Castille Body Wash is excellent for dry, sensitive skin. We also love their Hand Sanitizer and Room Spray with their soft lavender scents, which are again gentle and free from harsh chemicals.
